You can’t run or pass laterally versus top P5 teams with speed. Those plays might work for the Rajun Cajuns but not against FSU. ETN got hurt in one of those lateral passes when the FSU defender crushed him as he was catching the pass. No bueno
It was not a bad call- the OL did a couple of look out blocks so the timing was way off- and SOS ran it a lot when he was at UF
Yeah, with a freshman QB1 in a game against the #5 team in the nation... when we had a 12 - 0 lead... right after a safety... and we had momentum by the balls... and ... we were moving in for more points? Yeah, there was NO reason to attempt that momentum killing, soul crushing, "trick" play at that time, NOR IN THIS GAME.
There is an art to knowing when to use a trick play and knowing what the chances of that trick play working. That play had no chance with the pressure FSU was putting on us. It felt forced…as if Billy drew it up and wanted to force it into the game some where. So bad.
It was a bad idea to even attempt something like that with the QB we had in there. I would not even like to try that with a fully healthy Mertz in the game. The risk of tricking that defense was negligible. They actual have a good back-end coaching staff.
Problem is he’s learning from his previous mistakes. He has to be extremely hard headed. It’s getting old
CBN has no imagination on offensive football. He did not have it at Clemson in a much weaker conference and was let go and is destroying it here.
Billy is a terrible OC and game manager. Nothing new. This loss is entirely on him. I don't think I've heard him take responsibility for it yet.
Never saw a double reverse flea-flicker from the HBC. Did see a lot of hand off to the back and then have him shovel it back to the QB for a flea-flicker....particularly early in his career when we didn't have teams as out-manned like we did later on.
No way were we ever going to have balance against FSU. Their defense was too strong, too fast, too smart for us to get Max an equal number of attempts. FSU would have had at least 3 picks and would have ended the game in the 1st half. We were up 12-0 because of the rushing attack. The horrid trick play is what blew the game wide open. That's when the dam broke with 2 players getting ejected, multiple other penalties, mass broken defensive plays, and 2 botched FGs. George changed the complexion of the game once FSU got under his skin - he never recovered and has his own POTG for the year getting bull rushed by a player 80 lbs lighter and getting credited with a partial sack on his own QB.
Like I said in another thread, I cheered at the initial handoff to Tre Wilson, then screamed "oh no" when I saw what was coming.
Trick plays can be exciting when they work. In general, I never like them. Just cantankerous I guess. When a Defense is living in your backfield, slow developing and sideways aren’t your friends.
G8orbill likes Sun belt Billy’s playcalling almost as much as he likes banning posters with the wrong opinions. the propaganda is strong with you gator bill.
