I probably shouldn't have posted about Biden keeping his glasses on as a criticism but it gets tiresome when I read all the shallow derogatory posts from the left and fired back. I will try to refrain in the future.

There’s certainly room and reason for a thread on Biden’s falsehoods, gaffes and general screwups. But it seems like his sunglasses and “he might molest you!” are a bit of a stretch.

 

Dang, I never could understand that Pittsburg yankee accent. What were they yelling? Something about “Joe go home, kill all Jews”? Or …. “Dang Joe, take those ugly sunglasses of, you look stupid”?

Honest question. Why is right leaning comedy just... not really funny. From standup to satire like this to Trump calling people "birdbrains." There has to be some underlying reason why right wing comedy generally falls flat.

I've taught comedy. I've studied comedy. I understand the general principles of what makes something funny. It really amazes me and I wish I had a better understanding of why the right just misses the mark.

Well in the case of the BB, their audience is a group of people who are perpetually infuriated by the subject(s) at hand. It's tough to make someone laugh about something that cannot possibly make them angrier.

My dad will bring up the BB sometimes, and he Force Laughs so hard that even that is a little scary. He is clearly so mad, but trying so hard to make it seem like he's not.

 

Once again the Babylon Bee demonstrates that conservatives just aren't very good at satire. The publication is an Onion wannabe and it doesn't come remotely close to the original. An example of political satire that's actually funny.

I think because they generally punch down and often make fun of people, rather than fun with people. Because so much of their comedy is about attacking, it is only funny if you are standing on the same side as the attacker. When comedy is about subverting expectations and identifying the absurd, everyone can enjoy the comedy.
