Being harassed on social media doesn't sound so bad, but some of those people are unhinged and it is turning into violence in the real world. Something, something, cancel culture. The book ban movement has a chilling new tactic: harassing teachers on social media
Before I became a teacher, I had three interviews in short order that required Top Secret DOJ clearance. All three times they asked me about my lack of SM (at the time I literally had zero SM presence.) They were very skeptical of the mere fact that I didn’t participate. All three times they asked “What do you have to hide?” And all three times I said “Everything.” Shockingly, I did not progress in any of those three interview processes. But what I meant by my answer is that in addition to believing that me showing you a picture of my lunch or pretending my family is sitcom smooth has no societal value and is possibly a red flag for my own mental state, SM is basically a way to invite the entire world to attack you. It can lead to every bad consequence including death. It is like adding 30 additional doors to your house. Why would you do that? And I’ve never been more convinced I am right now that I am a teacher. My colleagues, especially the younger ones who have no significant memories of life that didn’t default to SM inclusion, are continuously attacked (virtually) on every public ed culture war front. No thanks. You’re going to have to at least stand in front of me. Although even this article describes exactly that.
This is what Jesus wants. Makes me laugh that the people trying to shove their version of religion down everyone’s throat are the same people saying they are tired of seeing “messages of inclusion”, or pride flags, or whatever they think is being over exposed these days.
Good for you. I declined to do much on Facebook once I read that by posting on their platform I was giving them ownership of all images. As a (former) professional photographer the last thing you ever do is give up ownership of the images you create, and only then if paid well. Folks I know in law enforcement and security say that having modest social media is probably for the best. Enough time is spent on GC anyway.
I only post here and occasionally on FB to keep up with old friends. Never anything controversial or political. I fear that a teacher is going to get killed this year because of these crazies. I hope I’m wrong but…
This CCDF movement is disturbing. One of there founders lives nearby me and they are definitely mobilized.
