My dad brought me into the gator family when I was very young. He’d leave work early and come home so we could catch the game together. Back then.. our gators were not shown on tv every week.. but we’d watch whatever game was on just to catch a highlight or score update. He and I have both aged… significantly … since then and I have brought my children up in the way of BHG stadium and all things gator. The true beauty is that it is something I share with my father and kids. Memories never to be erased. Saturdays in the fall are … religious. Win or lose I KNOW my dad and my son will be calling me no matter how far away. And those rare precious moments when we are all together to catch a game… nothing can ruin that. I don’t believe for a minute that UF will win the MNC ( I guess that too has gone by the wayside) this year. I’ll be happy with a winning record. But I know each and every Saturday I’ll be connected to generations of gators in my family.. passing along a glorious tradition that means virtually nothing and everything at the same time. I hope this fall you can spend Saturdays cheering our team with friends and loved ones. Celebrating all that SEC football has to offer. I hope you take a moment each week to see and appreciate the true beauty of being a Gator.
My dad did something very similar too. Even after I got married, he'd call me and ask if I was ready for the Gators' game. Only... I taught him to be a Gator because my first position (Pop Warner) coach played for the Gators and my dad (born and raised in Virginia) was a Notre Dame fan. That change in the 7th grade, and from then on he was all Gators...
Followed a girl (now my wife ) to UF after I got out of the service. Sexy Rexy and Spurrier turned me on (oh my!) to UF football. Undergrad and Dental school until we moved away near the tail end of Urbs run. So the Saturday fever began.
