Behind a paywall and I cannot read but DeSantis - via his hand picked board - also gave his hand picked new president and former FL SOH a huge raise to $699,000 over the president ($299,000) he ran off.

Basically New College getting 50 million in funding for various hiring, infrastructure and enrollment. Nice to know that now our governor sees fit to do this since he put his folks in charge.

reward the followers, punish the opposition; the way the executive authority has been abused in this state should be criminal at this point. I have no doubt that the no bid award to the private contractor for the refugee flights was criminal.

Yep, keep people focused on “woke” bullshit so they don’t pay attention to the grift and corruption.

Plus, you gotta be able to pay fat salaries to all his cronies being hired there, like Corcoran and Galvano.

This is interesting and even amazing to look at, I really think at some point we are all going to crack from so much tolerance :emoji_shrug:

Interesting thread. The fact that they invited Atlas was bad enough, but Atlas then choosing to make (at least part of) his speech about praising DeSantis is ridiculous. I feel terrible for New College students. They deserved better. This was a day to celebrate them, not for some braying jackass politicians to jerk each other off. (Corcoran also apparently chose to stand in the back rather than shake the graduates' hands as they came off as the stage.)

Yea, it was obviously a calculated provocation. They pretend it’s about educational ideas for reform, but really they just wanted to ruin one of the landmark life experiences for a bunch of 21 yos.

Florida Republicans as a group are just bad people. I’m sure there are plenty who don’t like this kind of stuff privately, but they are part of the machine.

Keep up the Lord's work! You are the shining light! It must be exhausting being superior to that many people.
(Are you officially the "woke pope" who decides moral/ethical questions for everyone or just a devoted acolyte of another more powerful entity? )

No need. We already have a woke Pope. He tries to channel what was a woke Savior. But don't worry, they're already working on undoing all of that after his papacy. Can't take that moral example too seriously. It's terribly inconvenient

A bit of man bites dog but I like their style and they make some very good points.

New College of Florida faculty votes to censure trustees
Faculty members at New College of Florida have taken the unusual step of censuring the school’s board of trustees for “disregarding their fiduciary duties,” according to a letter sent to college leaders Monday.

The motion states in part that trustee Matthew Spalding, a dean at Hillsdale College in Michigan, communicated with former Education Commissioner Richard Corcoran outside of public meetings to pave the way for Corcoran becoming New College’s interim president in February.

It states that trustee Christopher Rufo, an activist who has designed several conservative education policies, “refuses to cooperate with public records ... requests related to his work” at the school.

The school seems to be making the switch from academics to sports. The incoming class is larger, but test scores and GPAs for incoming students are down.
But they're bringing in lots of athletes.

Shockingly, putting inept partisan hacks and political arsonists in charge of a university doesn't lead to competence.
