I would not trust any ranking that put Hillsdale even minimally acceptable, at least based on their newsletters. Pure tripe, anti-intellectual historical falsehoods. There's a reason DeSantis chose them.

 

Whenever Democrats whine about Republicans attempting to influence what universities are doing, teaching, and promoting this is really the first thing that comes to mind:

 

I mean, I've been around here long enough to know how this game works.

Anything short of what you want to hear will be called trolling. We talk in circles where no consistent standard is applied to both Republicans and Democrats, somebody gets the last word and we move on.

You want Too Hot to be a place where there's functional discourse? And I think it's fair to say that the liberals on this board have that power due to numbers, maybe you should start with "leading by example."

 

Starting a thread is not leading by example. Engaging in honest discussion without condescension, disrespect, and ad hominem is a good start.

I hope that folks enjoyed that top 5 ranking while it lasted.

 

First thing that comes to mind for me when people post stuff like this is that conservatives love affirmative action as much as liberals

 

If DEI initiatives are the cause of us getting into the top 5, and mere removal of those initiatives causes us to dramatically fall, that says a lot more about the criteria that goes into those "rankings" we all care so much about than it does about Ron DeSantis or the University of Florida.

 

As usual, if the rules go one way. And you will use government as a sword for your agenda in a particular manner, don't get mad when the other side does the same thing.

It doesn't mean they like it. It means that you can never hope to win in politics if you live by libertarian and federalist principles, govern by libertarian and federalist principles, then expect your opponent to adhere to libertarian and federalist principles when they never do. You're left with the choice of adopting the same tactics that you despise, or lose endlessly.

If Democrats hated that so much, maybe don't force that choice on Republicans.

 

Job security is only one way of incentivizing people. There are many others, most notably: money.
