The issue is now part of the Tampa City Council races. From a mailer just received

[h]ere's some critical information that's come to my attention that you need to see before you fill in your mail-in-ballot.

Janet Cruz is NOT the good democrat we thought she was: and here's PROOF.

By now, you've seen the hostile, fascist takeover of New College of Florida by our governor. Richard Corcoran, now installed as president, was ENDORSED to run FSU by Janet Cruz, who is a known close friend of his. https://thecapitolist.com/insiders-fsu-presidents-job-is-greased-for-richard-corcoran-but-are-they-talking-to-themselves/

When all else fails, attack the credibility of the source, even if the evidence involves literal video evidence of admissions from the perpetrators themselves.

Also, don't you share Vox articles on a regular basis around here, gator_lawyer. I don't think you're in a position to lecture anybody on credibility of provided sources. What you seem to want is for people to accept the propaganda you provide, then call anything to the right of Stalin propaganda despite any reasonable arguments on the merits and regardless of how damning the evidence is.

Florida Supreme Court; no need for judges in training to be schooled on diversity. The law is intended to protect the power

    From the dissent:

Now, inexplicably, and without prior input from relevant parties, a mere one-and-a-half years later, this Court sees fit to - 8 - eliminate an express consideration of fairness and diversity from the continuing judicial education curriculum. As stressed by the majority, the canons in the Code of Judicial Conduct do prohibit bias and prejudice in their various forms. However, the purpose of providing express consideration to fairness and diversity education has been to complement the canons, and in the hopes of addressing the extremely complex issue that is discrimination, to educate the judiciary on strategies for recognizing and combatting discrimination. For these reasons, such a decision at this level of institutional gravity is, in my opinion, unwarranted, untimely, and ill-advised. I respectfully dissent.

Impact on enrollment at New College? Something about a tree falling in a forest comes to mind.

    ;)

In all seriousness, some of the commentary about how this is supposedly ruining a gem of the Florida university system is tough to take too seriously. New College was a supposed “honors college” that was already far easier to get into than any of the big state universities (UF, FSU, UCF, or USF) and had a total enrollment smaller than most rural high schools.

Bro, you're quoting a stochastic terrorist's Twitter account as a source. I expect I do share Vox articles often enough. Generally, they're the articles on legal cases written by a friend of mine and former lawyer who, while he certainly is liberal, is quite good at going into the weeds on complex legal issues.

You're really comparing that to you citing to a disingenuous hatemonger's Twitter account? Come on, now. That's like if I compared you citing a Daily Caller article to me citing Rebekah Jones's Twitter account.

Do you have evidence that the person running the Libs of Tik Tok account is a terrorist?

You do an unbelievable job of acting like even the most radical of left-wing sources (that you happen to like) are reliable, while any information regardless of how reliable is untrustworthy because of the source.

In other words, we’re supposed to judge Vox on the merits of a specific article, but we’re supposed to judge Libs of Tik Tok by the character of the account holder.

That is an incredibly dishonest way of arguing.

Something about partisan politicians mandating what is taught and who can teach it at what is supposed to be a place of intellectual exploration.

And if we are to dismiss it's importance due to its size, why does the Governor of the 3rd most populous state worry so much about it? After all, its small and unimportant but nevertheless he has a grand announcement about all the changes he will be making - new President, new board, new professors, new curriculum, new mission etc.

Dont recall the "gem" discussion you reference and New College wouldnt have worked for my academic goals. School has under 1000 students as I recall, so why does the governor even bother given all the other problems he could spend time on.

Whether the enrollment is 100 or 50K the intent of desantis' interference seems obvious which was my point....best case equals convert it to an ultra conservative college, worst case equals just shut it down when enrollment collapses. Woop woop, another culture war win.

Look up what a stochastic terrorist is. And yes, I have ample evidence:
Alleged Proud Boys storm Bay Area Drag Queen Story Hour at library
What's behind threats to LGBTQ events? 'A very orchestrated attack machine'
‘We will not tolerate hate’ | Woodland Police Chief addresses criticism of department's response to protesters outside drag event | abc10.com
Far-Right Extremists Are Threatening to ‘Execute’ Doctors at a Children’s Hospital

    Do I now? Go on.

I don't much care whether you agree with Vox's takes. I post the article for the explanation of an issue. Nothing stops you from citing an article from the right-wing side of the spectrum for an explanation of the same issue.

If you don't want to credit the Vox author because he's too far left, that's your business. I'm not telling you that his opinion is fact. You are asking us to take what that stochastic terrorist tweets as fact.

This coming from the guy who is relying on a stochastic terrorist's Twitter account to support his argument.

So in essence, you're holding the words of somebody who never advocates for violence and are lumping them in with people who act violently because they agree on certain issues that are now political but were almost universally agreed upon about 10-15 years ago, such as "men are men and women are women."

If that standard was applied consistently, everyone who engages in political theater on a consistent basis these days is a "stochastic terrorist." It seems like you're using that label as a club to silence or delegitimize dissenting speech. It's par for the course, but should not in any way be taken seriously.

Plus it's a shot. It tells the staff and faculty at much larger universities that they too have to put aside their knowledge and adopt a false version of History and other disciplines and censor themselves.

It's a very typical totalitarian mindset to trivialize the importance of the first victim.

How Stochastic Terrorism Uses Disgust to Incite Violence
She's the textbook definition of a stochastic terrorist. Just because you agree with her hateful rhetoric doesn't change that. Plenty of people agreed with the stochastic terrorists who opposed the Civil Rights Movement too.

I oppose the government silencing her, but I fully support polite society shunning her and the rest of her bigoted ilk.

With the way you throw around terms like "hateful rhetoric," "stochastic terrorism," and "bigot," people should take such accusations with an incredibly skeptical eye. You seem to treat them as more of a "get out of jail free" card than a genuine good faith grievance.

I call them as I see them. When you accuse people who aren't harming anyone of being "groomers," advocate for stripping them of their rights (or denying them equal rights), and incite violence against them, you are a bigot and a stochastic terrorist.

this. it's a classic bully picking on the weakest to show the others how the bully will treat them if they dare to stand up to the bully.
