At 1:10:16 you see Slaughter coming off right behind Mertz, presumably for Underwood at LS. So at least someone on the line was getting subbed for the FG.

There's an old saying "Nothing ever exceeds its leadership."
Sadly that is proven true over and over.
I'm just so sad that these players who came to my school are robbed of what should have been a beautiful, season making win in a tough season.

I'll always root for us to win because of them.

True. They had to know they were lined up with an extra guy. But at that point they couldn’t do anything but hope it went unnoticed

My thing is..how do you just run on the field and not notice the guy you are replacing didn’t come off? Did they line up next to each other with their eyes closed? Do we need to have them “slap 5” to ensure? Also..none of the coaches noticed. Just so bad. EDIT. I didn’t see that someone gave the same opinion above…my bad.

While we discuss another blunder, Lanning used 12 intentionally on D so the clock would restart as soon as the ball was set. He knew the clock would restart after the penalty...

Close. The time used on the play in which the penalty occurred is lost. 10 seconds to go, Lanning used 12 men to defend Ohio State knowing the penalty is only 5 yards if accepted. Ohio State was facing a 3rd and 25 and far out of field goal range. The 3rd down play was incomplete but replayed with 6 seconds to go as a 3rd and 20 as a result of the penalty.

Lanning traded 5 yards for 4 seconds.

What if osu realized it? Do they spike it? Then it might be 5 yards for one second. I think that penalty moved them to a 55 yard fg? Not impossible with how kickers are booming them (at least in the NFL). I think osu kicker has a long of 47

NCAA changes the rule so the offense can accept the penalty without time coming off the clock. Only if 12 men actively participate. If a 12th man is attempting to run off the field when the ball is snapped, the clock still runs.

NCAA closes loophole on Ducks' 12-man penalty

Replying to myself here because I just read confirmation of what I instinctively suspected:

"Mertz said he actually felt a pop two plays before the touchdown pass to Arlis Boardingham when the knee finally gave out and floored the 23-year-old."

Point being he used the rules in his favor, he owned it. Our guy look like he couldn't figure out who took his candy.

So how much time is left on the clock when you realize this? There's a 10 second runoff for an offensive injury with less than 2 minutes in the 2nd and 4th quarter.
