To be completely fair the announcers brought up the ball possibly going off of Claytons foot after the view showed he didn’t touch the ball with his hand after it was knocked out of his hands. They then ran the replay again focusing to see if it hit his foot…..they agreed it did not.
It didn't look like it to me from the start and that's probably when I muted the TV and started re-listening to Lee. Besides . . . being "completely fair" to that biased crew? May we please see your Gator card? LOL!
Yes… initially. But by the time the officials finished the first review… the announcers and viewing audience were sure it would and should be Florida’s ball. But alas…. Pat Adams.
We do get the kid who was suspended for the first 3 games back after the next game. However, turnovers absolutely killed the Gators against Virginia. UF did improve FT shooting which should be fine moving forward. Agree that this team is better than last year. It should improve with more time using the rotations.
Watching the game and then seeing it initially awarded to Virginia made me think why do we even have video reviews?
Have you seen an officiating crew blow a call, check video so clearly showing their mistake that the announcer offhandedly says “this will be Florida ball”, and then have to be told “you screwed up AGAIN?” That sequence should result in referee suspension.
I think the announcers missed a ton of calls from body slamming our guards and hands slaps and pulling/holding our players on pick and roll plays. If we had played defense like that, every starter we had would have fouled out, not just Micah. This kind of slow down ball, working around the key until someone is open in the almost 30 seconds they are allowed, this type of play we will see in tournaments, we have to work on our defense for those types of teams and on offense, passes have to be done quickly when there is a good chance it will work. Soft lobs were stolen so many times that I cringed coming down the stretch. Turnovers from lazy passes and forcing shots when we hadn’t got a open look will eventually catch up with the Gators in the teams that play the fore-mentioned defense, we will see this with Texas A&M, Tennessee and things get heated in these types of games. Tony Bennets face showed us he wants every edge he can get and will get his guys to hammer even harder at the end of games. He knows the refs will let most hand checks and body blows go. People on Florida teams have gotten injuries often in games like this, Noah, Jason Jitiboh come to mind. Our coach got up heated a few times, which I liked and he has to stay connected with the refs however he can talk to them during timeouts and when fouls are called on us and missed on them. He can be nice and let them know they are better than that!
The ball was in the endzone. 2pt and the kick coming to them. They ban talk about Lane Fenner all day. This should get the ref/s to miss some games from the ACC, pure homer, even the announcers were second guessing.
In this case, the announcer is actually who got them to correct the call. They got a different view in late, and it showed clearly that the ball did not go off the foot. The ref asked the announcer if they got it right, the announcer said no. They took another look at it and got it right. I still don't know how the ref who's standing two feet from the whole thing got the call wrong in the first place. The views they showed over and over again during the initial review, you couldn't clearly see whether the ball touched the foot or not. You could see the Virginia players hand was clearly the last hand to touch the ball, but couldn't see if it touched Clayton's foot. The view that came in late showed the ball was a good 5-6 inches off Clayton's foot. You could clearly see the ref say "We didn't have this view" when he came back to the monitor for the second review. They did eventually get the call right, and, in this case, you can thank the announcer directly for getting the call fixed.
