The border isn't a place. It's a state of mind. If you want gangs, hardened criminals, fentanyl, human traffickers, and terrorists coming in, the border is secure.

True - everyone knows that Trump's terrorists were much smarter.

So you are of the belief that the border is no different than it was 3 years ago? There is no increase in crossings whether it be legal or illegal?
    Wow, just wow!!!

So what do you think is happening? In the last three years we had the pandemic. This is something we could all look up but I think the trend is for less people to be coming over. My plan would be to give everyone in the country a green card. Make them pay taxes and into social security. I would execute everybody who hired people off the books. The problem isn’t illegal aliens. It’s people and businesses that don’t want to pay people.

So you believe the trend is for less border crossings now than the past 2-4 years?
    Again, wow. just wow!!!

So you ignore the trend and go with the three years of Covid disruption. You also didn’t read what I posted.

We had the pandemic. That blocked entry for almost all undocumented immigrants, but it was only a temporary dam. Biden eased it a little by letting in minors and those traveling with minors, but numbers wise, the people reaching the border hasn't changed significantly over time. The difference is the those who crossed it, which went down when Title 42 was in place.

But Title 42 was always, at best, a temporary dam situation. Eventually, dams burst, and the flood waters rush in.

As for pre-pandemic, I agree with the Libertarian Cato Institute. Trump lowered legal immigration numbers. But for all his attempts, he accomplished nothing when it came to slowing down undocumented immigration.

That's because immigrants come here for the same reason they have been coming here for generations. A push out of their home country due to famine, war, poverty, violence, etc., and the opportunity for a better life here. Less and less Mexicans are coming, because their economy was very good pre-pandemic. But more C. Americans and Venezuelans were coming because the situations in their respective home countries were dire.

Those are two separate questions. Yes, the border is more "secure" than ever, in the sense that we have spent an ever escalating amount of money hiring law enforcement and building infrastructure to "secure it." However, there are more people trying to come into the US than ever before for a variety of reasons. First, there is a massive shortage of labor in the US. Second, the war on drugs continues and has caused massive amounts of violence in Central America. Third, Covid delayed the migrants that would have wanted to come here for reasons #1 and #2 for several years and now they are all showing up in the last couple of years.

The fact is that we need to stop framing the border as a law enforcement issue and start thinking about it as an economic issue. As long as the US is an attractive destination due to labor shortages, people will find ways into the US.

One more in case those didn't prove the point.

    I ignore the trend?
The trend that was there before Bidumb was elected or the trend since?
Oh, I read what you said. "I think the trend is for less people to be coming over."
And I also read "I would execute everybody who hired people off the books."
Awful harsh for you peace loving liberals!!

Since when have I been a liberal? I just reject the trump sleaze and think that women should be allowed to make decisions about their bodies. Both are things true conservatives should like.

We have had several good discussions that we agree on a few and disagree on most but civil respectful debate and I appreciate that. The US will always be attractive. The prettiest girl in the room doesn't all of a sudden get ugly. We have our warts, but this is the country people want to come to yesterday, today and tomorrow!!! I am all about we need reforms in our immigration system to allow for more workers, but we also need reforms in our social programs, so viable citizens that can work, go out and work for their living not just rely on social programs.

Well, if not a liberal I apologies, but only liberals think the border if fine, that is why I charactered you as that. My apologies if I'm mistaken.

Really. I consider myself to be a true libertarian. I am for open borders but nobody works without paying taxes. All of the 1 percent are for illegal workers working illegally but cheaper for them.

If you read the article, it states he completed his 10 year sentence in March ‘22 after being in custody for 16. Did Biden have a choice after that point? Seems like rule of law would require he ultimately be released.

Or could it be during Trump’s tenure they didn’t try to cross but under Biden they think they can get in easier?

Did you really suggest people get executed for hiring someone off the books?
