I was assuming it was hyperbole. 30 percent of Americans supported hitler. The more things change the more things remain the same.

These people are driven by religious zealotry and have no concept of how controlling and menacing such a stance is. You could try to explain it to them and they would tell you some tripe about "God's children" blah blah. Don't get me wrong, I'm not anti-Christian, but these people allow their minds to be possessed by a mythology and it leads them to some very dark and unconstitutional realms.

The abortion issue in general is where you see the big split between the older RINO Republicans (who like to believe they are small government but are truly big government on social issues) and the 40 and under more Libertarian Republicans (like myself).

I know for me the abortion issue has been an issue of argument between me and my parents, especially my dad who is in his late 70s. Despite the fact we are all Republicans we disagree on it like we're in different parties. It's gotten to the point where we have just all agreed not to talk about. My dad flat out believes that a woman who gets an abortion should face the death penalty.

What a lot of people don't realize is just how much of a split there is in the Republican party. The old guard who are still controlled by religious interests (like my parents) vs the younger generation who really want a Libertarian Republican party that is small government in both fiscal and social issues.

I agreed with Roe v Wade being overturned. It was bad law and abortion is a state issue, not a federal issue. With that said I'm sad by what many Republican State Governments have done. It also truly dumbfounds me when I see some Republicans wanting a Federal Abortion Ban, no state ban exceptions for even the health of the mother and now wanting to criminalize crossing state lines. It goes against everything they say they believe in.

It also amazes me they can't see the slippery slope. Will citizens be subject to their state laws when even outside the state? What happened to when in Rome? If these types of laws pass constitutional scrutiny could someone from Texas who goes to Colorado for legal marijuana be arrested when they get back to Texas? Could someone from California go to a non-Indian casino in Vegas and get arrested when they get back to California? Could a 19 year who drink in Europe where the drinking age is 18 get arrested the minute they step off the plane back in the U.S.? If these types of laws pass that's what they are setting up. You being subject to the laws of your state of residence at all times, even when outside the state. Scary precedent.

Going back to abortion my stance has always been the same. Abortion allowed in the first trimester (12 weeks/3 months). After the first trimester abortion only allowed for rape, incest or health of the mother. Men should also have the right to a financial abortion up to 8 weeks. A woman's life shouldn't be dramatically altered simply because a condom broke or failed and a man's life shouldn't be dramatically altered simply because a condom broke or failed.

It's sad that this and drug legalization are the hills older Republicans have decided to die on. If a Republican would truly run on reducing the size of government, returning more power to the states, not getting the U.S. in conflicts they don't need to be in (such as Ukraine currently), emphasizing separation of church and state while not trying to criminalize religion (no mandated school prayer while also allowing a group of kids to decide they want to pray before a sporting event or create a religious activity group) and having the abortion policy I outlined above would I think run away with the election.

Sadly it's the older religiously indoctrinated big government social Republicans that are going to destroy the Republican party before the 40 and under Republicans have any real chance to reform it and make it what it should be.

Just as unconstitutional as "making it hard for people to shoot other people" by taking away guns. Constitutional rights of all citizens should be protected.

 

Republicans have used abortion as a wedge issue for decades, and now they can’t walk it back..

Very few of them truly actually care about fetuses, especially not from poor backgrounds..

 

Imagine someone being this condescending while defending making it illegal to use roads to leave a state to buy a beer or avoid a vaccine mandate.

 

Nope just facts

 

These local laws are just window dressing. They are impossible to enforce unless they are going to set up police roadblocks on every road into and out of town to see if anyone is pregnant and where they are going. But they could still lie about it.
