Taunton disclosed considerably more than that. No, he did not convert. Yes, he did drop his prior haughty regard for the Gospels.

But have you considered coming back to church ? There’s always room for one more hypocrite!

Atheists are people who believe we’re all headed for nonexistence - some sooner than later. Dead children being people who never had the opportunity to shake their fists at the illusion of injustice in the world.

So if you witnessed a violation of the laws of nature you’d drop your aversion towards rich Christians and go to church with them or maybe just find a church of modest income earners ?

Do they violate the laws of nature, or do they appear to violate the laws of nature based on our limited understanding of nature. Your school of thought seems to be of the same vein as those who create an either/or scenario between God and nature/science. For those of us who believe that nature is not exclusive of God, it's more a matter of lacking the knowledge of nature that is ultimately controlled by God. There are many things that exist that we don't understand (or seemingly violate known laws of nature) that are not referred to as "miracles." Just some food for thought.

Fair enough; the comment was more for those who have expressed such an idea on this thread or others.

I think many of us are on the same page with this one.

Due to the viruses thing, I had just assumed you had some inscrutably high standard of evidence for belief, but since you’re now mocking people for not believing in God, it appears your skepticism has definite limits. I wonder, what do you believe should count as evidence for a claim?

Atheists--especially the militant variety--are people who believe that it is far more plausible to have won the lottery a trillion times in succession thus rendering us the beneficiaries of unfathomably fortuitous accidental development into something so incredibly sophisticated as the current multifaceted variations of life...

...than to dare accept that we are the fruit of extraordinary, perhaps incomprehensible, higher intelligence (regardless of identity of the source of such).

At least that's the party line.

Quite possibly, perhaps more likely, it's a matter of fear and inconvenience of acknowledging blatant Truth, than actual ignorance born of hubris (or hubris born of ignorance).

I incline towards the former (fear/inconvenience), though either of the latter (ignorance/hubris/ignorance) are perfectly plausible explanations--perhaps both, depending on the person...

...because the notion that intelligence came about accidentally is so laughably absurd, that it's incomprehensible to accept the position as actually held in earnest by anyone with any degree of intelligence at all.

    C'est la vie.

You don’t understand the laws of nature. There is nothing limited about our understanding of the laws of nature because they are laws, not possibilities, and they can’t be broken. The creator created those laws, and the creator is the only one that can violate those laws. We will know when a miracle exists when we observe the law violated. Merely being unable to explain an anomaly doesn’t make it a miracle.

I would admit a miracle happened. My opinion of those who abuse the constitutional right of freedom of religion would remain unchanged.

Yeah I suppose...hence my initial take.

But every now and then we do get a positive thread around here, and sometimes it's well taken.

I find those refreshing, few and far between as they are.

but hey... I'm not above getting a little muddied and bloodied around here.

Wouldn't stick around if I was.

    c'est la vie.

....said the beneficiary of those who fought for her religions freedom to hold such beliefs, and even to hold those who fought for such right, in disdain and contempt.

    It's certainly your privilege.

Ingratitude is every human being's right.

In fact, according to the Judeo-Christian tradition, it's how we came to be what we are--i.e.--separated from God.

    So ingratitude on!

And then you hear the one's like, "Bus accident kills 23 on board with 1 lone survivor, an infant. Many are calling it a 'miracle'. More at 11." That implies divine intervention, and if there was intervention, why not save the other 23...
