It don’t think I’ve mocked peoples faith. It’s just that I and many others don’t have any. One’s faith should be personal if you broadcast it and suggest that your belief matters to me, or suggest I’m in anyway bound by it, I will point out happily that I don’t care and don’t believe.

The persecution of atheists or casual believers in some type of higher power (not necessarily a God) is appalling especially seen in the light of record low church attendance in America.

this god gearing person doesn’t matter to me except that he should be in jail.

Yeah. Thats why its called faith.
Science and faith coexist and work together, but both do it under the understanding that there are things we can't understand.

We basically understand nothing in the grand scheme.

Well in this case a poster tried to post a feel good story that everyone could at least find as a happy story and a minority of haters chose to take a dump on it. Lets start there with the call outs.

Eh. If someone is going to post something on too hot, that's kind of whats expected, right?

If someone just wants folks to say, "wow, what a miracle" they should post it in the Den or Facebook or on their church mailing list.

Knowledge without tangible falsifiable proof...some would call that "faith."

I was simply pointing out that I find it amusing that a god is given credit for something that is, let's say, unusual but positive, as in the OP's story (which BTW, I'm glad it turned out that way), but conveniently excused when horrible things happen basically every minute of the day, somewhere. The ability to rationalize that, seems deluded to me. To simply say, well we just don't understand what's good for us, seems like you've surrendered your critical faculties. I suppose I'll never understand how people can view it that way.
As for proof that miracles don't happen, I personally have none to offer. Just as those who profess they do occur, have the same empty sack. But I would think that making an argument supporting that the currently understood laws of the physical universe have been suspended for such an occasion or "miracle" would require the higher burden of proof.

I'm always intrigued to see how it is determined that some of us have the wrong idea of God (no doubt we are left to speculate in some aspects always); the certainty of how God *should* operate seems to come from atheists. How is it that God *should* act from your perspective? What do you believe God's goals *should* be? Or if it's one of those scenarios where *I don't have the answers to that, I just know what it should not be?*

Atheists are entitled to their beliefs. But I’ve read that Hitchens wobbled down the stretch.

well speaking for myself as an atheist, I don’t think God should behave in any particular way because for me he/she/it doesn’t exist. However as someone who attended church regularly till I was confirmed I certainly have views on how people who claim to be Christian’s should behave.

Hitchens was asked about his death when he was sick and knew nothing else could be done to save this life. He suggested there would be rumors of a deathbed conversion on his part - something he had criticized people in the past for claiming about dead people. Even Larry Taunton was pressed to clarify or walk back what he put in his book.

B.S. My disdain lies with the people who use faith as a way to get rich, and as a cover to promote their own hate.

Miracles are events which violate the laws of nature itself. Show me an event that happened that fits that definition and I’ll admit miracles exist.

They only apply the label of miracle to something good that happens. If they want to attribute the child surviving as a miracle then they would have to attribute the child dying as a miracle since the same creator of the laws of nature would be responsible.

I have a theory about those who like to advertise their piety every chance they get is they are struggling with their own doubts, and find themselves looking everywhere for proof. People of faith don’t need proof.

I interned at a pediatric ICU about 25 years ago. Stopped believing in God after a couple of days there.

That’s too easy to argue and it still doesn’t show which law it violates.

Pretty clear that rising from the dead is against the laws of nature.
