What a dummy. He’s on video in the link saying “I’m ethnocentric so I think my race is the superior race” then going on about everyone being racist deep in their heart… to a room that included at least few black kids based on the video…. He seems to be justifying it by saying he thinks people of all races are racist so it’s okay for him to be racist, too…

He’s placed on leave. He should come to Florida, he’s probably protected under DeSantis’s diversity of ideas legislation…

Florida has a teacher shortage. DeSantis would definitely take him.

He can run for office as a republican, especially in a deep red district.

Critical race theory proving itself to be the biggest threat to public schools. Wait, no, sorry.

That’s some woke stuff being taught in a Texas school. Wonder if Abbott is going to go full DeSantis on the right.

Suicide by stupidity. I wonder what class this was; the article didn't appear to indicate. I also wonder how long this guy's been teaching. Or perhaps this was another substitute teacher gone wild.

I wonder what criteria he uses to determine “superiority”.

I think it is human nature to overvalue yourself vs. others. It’s largely why gossip is a thing, why were are tribal at heart etc. Race is part of that, and that can actually be an interesting discussion in how we self correct those biases.
But to call yourself ethnocentric is just dumb.

Kind of hard to deny that whites are the superior race. I mean, look at the standard bearer of this belief - Donald Trump. Have you ever seen a more perfect example of human creation? The sheer brilliance, the perfection in every way. It's plain that white supremacy is product of pure merit

Being lost in this discuss is the grace and maturity with which those kids handled that conversation.

Actually this could quite plausibly be Woke Gone Mad. This guy is either genuinely racist, or he is trying to make a point that he doesn't grasp all that well and certainly does not articulate almost at all. Hard to tell which, IMO. If it's the former, it's why the term "woke" was a long-abandoned idea before the Limbaugh's and Mr. Van Driessen's dug it up to perpetually not understand it.

Some alien visitor might wonder if the members of the species with the lighter skin color spreading like a plague across the planet, driving the members with the darker skin color to near extinction and forcing others into slavery or poverty, usually in service of some imagined deity, and all the time despoiling the planet, might not be the inferior members of the species.

The teacher's exact words were that he is "ethnocentric" which means that "he believes that his race is the superior one".

Interesting that it came from someone who identifies as white. It seems to give justification towards his beliefs. I have never once heard of an Asian person or native Indian American or many other groups going around saying that they were ethnocentric.

On a subconscious level, everyone strongly identifies with the group that they were born in and the culture that they were raised in. This teacher believes that everyone is therefore 'subconsiously racist' towards groups that are different from their group of origin.

Perhaps 'biased' would be the softer word to say rather than saying racist which I believe is an active word that is followed through with some type of action.

In my opinion, I think that there are also many more people who are more open minded and do not automatically pre-judge people that they are just meeting.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, I am not sure why this 'white' teacher would bring up this controversial subject to such a young, impressionable audience especially in a multicultural environment (i.e the school) with differing races, ethnicities and perhaps socioeconomics.

Perhaps that it was a warning to these students that one may be subjected to some kind of bias/discrimination just based on one's race/ethnicity when applying for jobs/schools/organizations or even trying to associate with new people that one meets everyday.

It would have been better to give examples where a bias towards some individuals of a group is contradicted somehow rather than just confirming the bias. It would have been an indication of misjudging people just based on someone being an 'outsider' from their own group of origin.

If he is a substitute teacher, perhaps some of the students were misbehaving, being too loud and he didn't deal with them in an appropriate manner and decided to bring up this subject matter because of his frustration. In any case, the unqualified individual was delt with by the school and the complaining parents.

Or better yet, as a white, liberal democrat who are great chameleons and actors in championing what is right for all while pursuing political power. There are a lot of 'great' options available (R, D, I, etc). People like him should just get their stories straight to fit in.
