I can't stop laughing at this. Greg Abbott's opponent, Democrat Beto O'Rourke, is traveling across Texas and holding town halls just about everywhere (including very Republican counties). Abbott's supporters have been showing up to protest Beto. Instead of being a jerk to them, Beto and his campaign have invited them into the events and given them the opportunity to speak and ask questions. (At one event that was outside in the Texas summer, they invited the Abbott supporters into the shade and gave them water.) Abbott's campaign has now instructed his supporters who are protesting Beto to not go into the events and ask questions or take pictures with him because it's making Beto look good. "Per email seen by Trib, Abbott campaign has instructed supporters who are protesting O’Rourke events not to go inside or talk w/ O’Rourke with their Abbott gear on, concerned he’s taking pictures with them and giving appearance they’ve converted" Abbott will almost certainly win reelection because it's Texas, but it's frankly hilarious that Abbott knows his opponent coming off as a good person makes Abbott look bad in comparison. What can Abbott really do against the revolutionary strategy of actually talking to voters, listening to their concerns (even when they disagree with you), and trying to find common ground? That's just so unfair.
He's following the usual MAGA playbook of making a complete ass out of yourself during a campaign, then claiming the election was rigged when you lose.
Don't Beto your bucks this leads to anything. Latino's in Texas have had enough with the border crisis and crime. Add in the weak police response in Uvalde and you'll see more defections.
