Police behavior is pretty disgusting? Can we do that with other groups as well?

Not always. Sometimes you win some money. I know of one were a guy shot at the police and still won a 1.5 million dollar lawsuit. Been debating on making a thread for it. The police behavior [In the one instance that I'm talking about] is pretty disgusting.

    Ok
I thought and read it as you were just making a blanket statement. Police behavior is disgusting.
    That’s why I asked.

It's all good. But yeah, I'll probably make the thread after work and you can judge for yourself. I think you will agree.

Well of course there are going to be occasional disgusting acts by Police, just like there are disgusting acts by soldiers, politicians, judges, lawyers.....pretty much any occupation has a few disgusting individuals in it. It doesn't necessarily mean they are all disgusting evil people. Except for maybe lawyers.

The mother and children were no longer in their apartment at that point. Did they have officers who have extensive training and experience on deescalating confrontations with people in mental health crises running the show? Did they have any mental health experts offering advice to the officers on how they could calm the man down?

Did they exhaust all of their nonlethal force options? For example, a man in a different part of Minnesota holed up in a building with a gun (and tried to goad the officers into killing him), and the officers were able to take him down using nonlethal means.
    Charges filed following armed standoff

It would be much easier to accept the answer to these questions was that they couldn't have done anything more to save the guy if we had done anything substantial to reform policing or address the racial issues inherent in how we police. But we haven't. Until that happens, people have every right to protest shootings like this one. The question isn't if the law justifies the shooting. The question is if we could do something to stop these killings. Whatever the answer is to that question, doing the same things over and over again aren't going to lead to different results.

    1. Let's say the answer to that question is yes because it could be.
    2. What are the police supposed to have professors and psychiatrists on retainer at 4 am? Come on.
    3. Let's say they did in training.
    4. Maybe they did. They were negotiating with the guy for hours.

Sometimes cops do everything right and there's still a bad outcome. And even if cops do everything right, if the person they shoot happens to be Black, there will be protests and people calling for his job throughout the country, and the incident becomes a national story with the Black guy being the victim and the cop being the bad guy, regardless of the circumstances.

Also even if the mother and children were gone, I believe the guy was still armed. If he's still armed and presents a clear danger, the police have every right to defend themselves and others.

My feeling is if a person whether he is mentally ill or not is risking the safety of innocent citizens or police I want him taken out by the quickest and most efficient method period. If he is using deadly force use deadly force. Dealing with a mental patient is not the polices responsibility, their responsibility is to end the situation as quickly as possible by the safest means possible.

These cops didn’t even go THAT far. They gave this guy every opportunity to give himself up.

One less dangerous piece of crap is gone. The usual morons show up to protest. The rest of us thank the police. Nothing new here…

Nobody is disputing that. The point is that you can't ask, "What else could they do?" when we've tried little outside of what has been the status quo. It's hard to take demands that people stop protesting seriously when we've delivered little to nothing to them in terms of policing reform. Until that happens, they're going to rightfully ask if this guy really needed to die.
