… As promised, some info, quotes and observations from the first week of summer workouts. Harry Fodder: Summer Season in Session - Florida Gators
David Robinson grew a lot after enrolling at the Naval Academy. He was 5' 9" as a high school junior.
His is one of the all time great stories—were it fictional, it would be called outlandish. Grows from 5’9 as a junior; starts playing basketball for the first time as a senior; at 6’7, granted height waiver by Naval Academy because “he won’t grow any more”; grows to 7’1” and becomes a basketball hall of famer.
to actually measure at 7'7.5 is insane. Most list at whatever lofty height they set then measure 1-2 inches less....but to actually measure at that height at his age....WOW
Thanks, Chris, for posting. Can't get enough of Gators basketball. Summer is slow, so it's always nice to get updates.
Rioux, who recently arrived in Gainesville as a preferred walk-on for Todd Golden’s program, has measured in at an eye-catching 7-foot-9 and 290 pounds at Florida. That, according to reports, increased his own Guinness World Record as the world’s tallest teenager. Per his official Gators bio, “Rioux stood 6-foot-1 at age 8, 6-foot-11 by sixth grade and crossed the 7-foot mark the summer before entering seventh grade.” There's tall...and then there's "Oh no, it's headed this way tall."
