It really is crazy. I've kinda been checked out after the Jimbo saga and Taggart disaster relative to my interest level the previous 20 years plus I am getting older and I just don't have the time/energy to follow everything (recruiting, etc.) like I used to but yeah... it is pretty crazy. Trying to think who our best home grown player is right now. We have some good guys but they're all solidly behind the ones listed below. Off the top of my head... Jordan Travis is from Louisville (though he does have an FSU pedigree as his brother won the Golden Spikes award in baseball there) Tre Benson - Oregon Johnny Wilson - Arizona State Keon Coleman - Michigan State Jared Verse -SUNY Albany Jaheim Bell - South Carolina Darrell Jackson - Miami (transfer waiver denied) Tatum Bethune - UCF Fabian Lovett - Miss State Jermaine Johnson from UGA and Jamie Robinson from South Carolina the last couple years. He's starting to back fill the roster with home grown guys. Dependence on the portal will begin to drop here shortly though it is nice to see he is able to go out and pluck dudes when he wants/needs them like Keon Coleman this season. Colorado took it to an extreme. Of course they had to. Pretty wild what Deion is doing. I don't dislike him but the disrespect schtick is getting really, really old. They are a great story and I was totally cheering for them as if I had to bet I thought they'd struggle to win 1-2 games but they're pretty much a lock to go 3-0 but they're making it really hard now. Of course big games and trash talk and all that are what make CFB so much fun. Colorado-USC and Colorado-Oregon are going to be appointment television. Not that I expect a Charles Kelly led defense to stop anything resembling a competent offense USC's defense isn't exactly gang busters either and Colorado can score. Will be fun either way watching the post game crow eating by Deion and co. or watching the Deion Express rocket into outer space with expectations. Beat USC and you're talking legit CFP possibilities.
If he beats usc and Oregon, they can’t be kept out. We saw how well Oregon did against Georgia last year though. Their two time def champion went down to one of the worst Gator teams in memory. It’s great hype news but I wouldn’t worry about them doing anything but something similar to what TCU did last year. I’m sure TCU is still happy that they were part of the worst beat down in history but I’m glad it wasn’t my Gators. That humiliation to Georgia may have made my brain explode.
In some ways I feel bad for Napier. For years the Gator Nation has been looking for a coach who can fix the high school recruiting problems and now that we are getting that fixed we need the coach to quickly learn this new transfer portal thing. Mullen was pretty good at the old transfer portal system but this portal system is completely different. What Coach Prime has done by replacing nearly 100% of his roster with the new portal is a game changer.
