Musk trying to access the country’s checkbook—just one of many big stories recently from this chaotic admin. Our nation can’t keep up.

“David Lebryk, the top-ranking career U.S. Treasury Department official, will leave following a clash with allies of billionaire and Trump adviser Elon Musk over payment system access

Lebryk and Musk's surrogates clashed over access to a sensitive system used to pay out more than $6 trillion a year in Social Security and Medicare benefits as well as federal salaries, government contract payments and tax refunds.”

is congress goign to allow this kind of intrusion? does anyone have any authority here besides the executive branch?

is DOGE clear of the lawsuit against its legitimacy?

Trump and Elon Musk Just Pulled Off Another Purge—and It’s a Scary One

The news raises a complicated question: WTF??? Why is Musk’s DOGE trying to access payment systems inside the Treasury Department? It’s not clear what relevance this would have to his ostensible role, which is to search for savings and inefficiencies in government, not to directly influence whether previously authorized government obligations are honored.

'Hair-on-fire moment': Critics react with horror to Elon Musk's latest scheme

Scott Imberman, a professor of economics at Michigan State University, found himself flabbergasted by the situation. "What the hell is Musk trying to do here?" he wondered. "This is extremely sensitive data."

Seth Masket, a political scientist at the University of Denver, questioned why Lebryk was departing instead of fighting to keep Musk from accessing the system. "I mean no specific criticism of Lebryk, and I know I'm watching from the cheap seats," he wrote. "But if US democracy is going to survive it's going to require some decent people refusing to be bullied out of office by rich pricks outside the government and daring them to come get him."

And trial attorney Max Kennerly chided American business elites who had cozied up to Trump without seeming to care about how moves like this could cause a devastating economic meltdown.

"All the smart, savvy bankers and CEOs who think they're just getting deregulation with a side of racism do not understand they will also be taken for a ride, as Trump and Musk treat the entire federal government like a mob protection racket, freely skimming anywhere they like," he wrote.

    No lose for Donny and Elon here;

    - find a way for impressive grift? Win!

    - greatly harm the USA? Just blame it on the bad ole Deep State! That's what they're honorably trying to correct in the first place!

MAGA won't care either way. Congress won't do anything, even if they do care. SCOTUS won't get involved (unless someone offers Thomas a top-notch vacation, then he'll sign off on it all.)

It's almost like.... the government is being run by criminals, who are enabled by a criminal organization, who are all enabled by about half of the electorate, which seems to only value....... making excuses for enabling a criminal.

    'Murica.

Elon and Donny had to get on the computer and get into some Windows settings that’s all:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Economy\Price_of_Eggs

    Change from 1 to 0

He is going to call the system inefficient and switch it all over to the X payment system he has been talking about out. Then Elon can take a nice fee off the top of your social security. Enjoy!

Your ( that's you, citizen) government is being hijacked.
Musk and/or his minions have already been embedded in Office of Management & Budget and General Services Administration. And now wanting access to the Treasury Department which includes financial data on all taxpayers, and guarantees all monies expended by the government.

There is NO legal authority for this and keep in mind that Elno has no sole loyalty to the U.S., given his close contact with China and the like.

The White House needs to explain these actions immediately.

I said they would try to loot Fort Knox if they thought they could get away with it.

I was only joking, but I guess wasn’t far off.

Hard to see what the angle here is. Trump/Elmo want to write “off the books” checks to themselves? Just ignore laws when it comes to the machinations of govt? Use paychecks as leverage to directly intimidate individuals? I can conceive of plenty of illegal acts, hard to see a legitimate purpose.

I think Elon at one point relalized Trump was the easiest means to the end when it came to protecting and growing his wealth and power. MAGA letting the world's richest man shadow run our government with zero pushback is flabbergasting.

Recall at one point Elon told Tucker Carlson in an interview if Trump loses he (Elon) was f@*#ked. This has been the game all along.

For $250 million plus Trump has apparently willingly delegated his authority as president (including authority that even Trump may not actually have) to defacto president Musk.

He'll probably steal some. Their intent is to politicize federal disbursements, so you'll probably luck out somehow.

The head guy was put on administrative leave for saying "no," to Musk. Then someone handed Musk the keys. The guy on AL was like, "later, haters" and resigned.

Because more than 50% of this country is stupid, and they invited this to happen.

It is not like the Heritage Foundation did not tell us exactly how they were going to use the mental-midget puppet Trump and drag the country closer than ever before to Nazi Germany type fascist dictatorship.

We know you hope Musk and Trump steal from the US government US people. That's what they do, and that's who you voted for.
