Teacher of the Year was supposed to be an honor. Then politics intervened.

The article linked in the Op was pay walled, so no I couldn’t read it.
I’ll say it once again more details are needed.

The blessing and the curse of social media. Being loud about any views can draw the attention of some loud mouths.

This is utter bullshit. The article is largely an account of various facts around the situation. The fact the source is in your mind liberal doesn’t make the core reporting of facts false. As pointed out, the article makes an effort to recite examples where liberal agendas have infected teacher of the year criteria also.

That's a very fair point, gatordavis. Maybe they should speak about what inspired them to teach young minds and how that fulfills their life to do so... and what joy they get out of watching young minds learn a grow.

It's not just teachers, there's a shortage of Americans wanting to work. I still run into a couple of mine every now and then

First: it’s an opinion piece poorly disguised as a news article. Yes I read it. I gathered the teacher was a liberal, maybe an activist liberal. Someone, maybe herself, nominated her for TOY. She won. Some parents learned of her activism and questioned her. She got insulted by parents questioning the TOY and quit.

then a liberal “journalist“ decided to write a leftist opinion piece to publish in a liberal Newspaper. not surprisingly I found the opinion piece lacking in facts and depth.

As for the suggested idea of a teacher being harassed for being a liberal, I am against any harassment of teachers who teach the ABCs of the subject matter on their class. Teachers, like everyone else, are entitled to live their lives outside the classroom without being under public scrutiny.

With that said, Parents get to decide and control the moral upbringing of their children without interference from the state ( school teachers). Parents have a right to ask questions and raise concerns in a respectful manner. The school is obligated to provide truthful and complete answers.

Having read this opinion piece I do not know if this teacher strayed from her subject matter, nor do I know if she was harassed by unruly parents. My spidey sense tells me she is a drama queen trying to get public sympathy, but that is just a preliminary opinion based upon a crappy op-ed.

There's an absolute right to free speech, without a doubt.

But I do think that social media in general has created this (imo) toxic mindset for many Americans that everyone needs to share whatever thought enters their mind. That's not a political commentary, as I think many people from many different "tribes" are guilty of this behavior, but public oversharing is a rampant social epidemic in this country, IMO.

Agreed, but message boards are a bit different than a virtual town square where your comments are accompanied by your name and portrait.

Interesting. Yep, teachers could have a profound impact on a kids life. But as we know teaching environment is significantly different now. So many quitting and too few applying.

My point is that I think that's less true, now. I think social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter have encouraged people to take their pajama rhetoric to the streets, no longer caring or worrying that they're attaching their real names and faces to whatever they think to say out loud.

It's like everybody's becoming a digital version of the religious barkers at Turlington Plaza. Again, not a comment directed at a political party, although I think political opinions are the sphere with many of the most egregious examples of this issue.

Superman syndrome. People think they are super heroes because they play video games. I think you are spot on. Anonymity has given unfounded courage to keyboard warriors.

Interesting. Don't think I've heard that phrase or theory. My gut reaction is that maybe it's the opposite though - that people behind the loudest and most aggressive rhetoric are actually lashing out as a form of venting due to their perception of having a lack of relative power and control over all of the changes happening in the world.
