This first year was always going to be a wash.
I said before the season that people were going to be frustrated because the staff was going to have growing pains when it came to in-game management and play calling.
Improved effort and influx of talent/better recruiting is what we needed to see this year.

Napier seems to be smart enough to "get it" when it comes to recognizing our deficiencies, but this off-season is going to be the real test as to how well he addresses them.

Yes. But recruiting alone would not have gotten them to 85. Kelly needed 17 from the portal to go along with the recruiting class just to fill the roster. We were not in that situation.

Napier has time to learn not to fake a kick against Bama in tge sec championship. Get the talent and work the kinks out. Saban did well at hiring guys to hide his deficiencies when it’s come to x’s ans o’s.

 

It’s not the talent but the weaknesses in certain groups. FSU has a better team but not necessarily better talent.

I certainly agree on upgrading talent, thru both the portal and HS recruiting, tho I dont think the talent is as bad as many think. However after losing to Vandy, Ky and Fsu and barely beating USF, I definitely have less faith in the current staff. Hopefully, all the off the field stuff that some fans rave about pays off next year because it certainly didnt this year.

Yep. Stack 4 stars deep on D and these issues go away. The key is asking the Gator Nation to breathe into a paper bag until that happens-- and forgiving the inconsistency. I hope so.

Hope that the OP is right. We will see. Come next year, there’d best not be such 3rd quarter stagnancy for our O. Or there’s going to be a call for some fire to be lit under some butts. Be it players or play caller.

 

All the more reason to stick with what was working. That decision to change directions came from the top and it was inexcusable.

 

All against good QBs that had good days against us. Bennet also.

 

Our front 7 is really slow. Anytime we play a team with an elusive fast QB we are DOA. One or 2 elite defenders and our D would be totally different. Having a guy like Perkins.. we would have shut down some of these teams, including F$U.
Unfortunately, as incredible as it is, Georgia has had 5 or 6 elite defenders these past couple of years. Everyone needs to remember until we can go toe to toe with Georgia, we’re not winning anything. CBN needs to stock our team. Hopefully he continues to recruit and makes adjustmenrs in coaching and tactics going forward
