This feels like a passive aggressive swipe at the current regime. The reaction in this thread is exactly what Spurrier wanted.
I think it's a matter of prudence, not being a "curmudgeon." This game is not for a championship or the right to play for one. UF trends on the side of fan/player safety when compared with their SEC peers. The fans you refer to curmudgeons are simply in agreement with UF's prudential approach.
I was a student in '97 and had one leg over the railing, ready to jump, then I saw what happened to the few that went before me and sobered up.
I was at a Dead show at the Rose Bowl where they had an 8 foot chainlink fence to seperate the stands and the field. They broke the fence down and theres nothing that can be done. Luckily noone was killed. Definitely dont go first, you gotta bum rush all at once. Beating a weaker LSU team is not the time to do it. I laughed at the holes when they stormed the field after beating AR's team. Half the gator section was laughing. It was kind of pathetic. Spurrier's legs seemed to be giving him trouble.
If Florida beats LSU and anyone complains about fans being excited, I really hope they get banned. The toxicity just doesn’t stop. Who possibly cares? I just want to see a win against a good team for the first time in seemingly eternity. I don’t care if they dropped confetti from a blimp and had a Bon Jovi concert.
Why complain about something that is hypothetical. Literally complaining about the possibility of what happens if a 4-5 team wins a game.
It seems so out of character for SOS. He knows you don't do this for a win over LSU. If anybody understands this, it's Spurrier.
I just think if anyone understands that a win over #23 LSU is not swarm-worthy, it would be SOS. So he might be sending a subliminal message here like "we've been reduced to swarming after a win over the #23 team in the country." Steve is a master trash talker. He's not looking to make a spectacle of beating LSU today unless he has a different point he's making.
This lining the field with cops started after we Gator fans tore down a goal post at Doak in 82. We were in our way to get the other one when we realized the cops had consolidated down there and were coming our way. I had been out of school for two years and didn’t need an arrest or to spend a great party night in Tallahassee in their jail. The next year UF always had large numbers of cops in the field at the end. That said, I’d Spurrier said do it I agree. It is a good litmus test for individual members of the UAA and BOR. Those that come out against it need to go.
