I would say that most people I know, were more mad that he came back after stepping down. It felt like he just wasted the 2010 season, and the team was talented, but had no identity and urban didn't seem too concerned about fixing anything. That's just a fan perspective, not knowing anything about what happens behind the scenes.

Finish watching last night and am still digesting it. But overall thought it nice and I see why our haters hate it.

Screw them. And screw Finebaum. And screw the production people who put him out there as some sort of neutral observer. I'd be less harsh if they at least had the decency to show that he has well demonstrated allegiances.

Beyond that it did seem a bit of an Urban renewal program. But, at the same time, it is undeniable that the job ate him alive, and did real damage to the man. Maybe a stronger person could have kept it all together and not shown the weaknesses that he showed. But I cant offer a candidate. Because how many people go through something like that even once in their life?

As an aside I really think the Ambien was a bigger issue than even Meyer recognizes. While not a benzodiazepine, it is a very similar sort of drug. And while many people take benzos without serious issues many others are not so lucky. And when he was saying how, in the midst of taking double doses in order to sleep, he was also experiencing severe anxiety and panic attacks while also having feelings "not knowing what was wrong with him" and losing focus I immediately thought of this

Ashton Manual - Benzodiazepine Information Coalition

and this section describing particular effects and manifestations of memory impairment

Chapter 1, The benzodiazepines: what they do in the body - Benzodiazepine Information Coalition

Benzos, and related drugs, can be Hell.

    ...

Getting back to the topic, I certainly wanted us to win it all in 2009, so cannot say I'm glad we didn't.

But at the same time, seeing the pressures they were operating under, and the direction is was all going, it appears the crash was inevitable and maybe it is better that it came when it did. Because who is to say how much worse it could have been further on down the road?

    God bless them all.

Yes in a perfect world he should have just left for good after 2009 but if that is the worst thing a coach does after 3 of the best seasons in program history you don't have much to complain about.

2010 was going to be tough for whoever the coach was because Brantley just wasn't very good and we paid for the massive whiff on the 2008 recruiting class that should have been carrying us. That was a down team that wouldn't truly recover until Meyer's excellent final recruiting came into their own in 2011.

Not just this poster but everyone...
    see my post #52.
Meyer hated and distrusted the media. AGain IMO they loved to contrast the sainted Tebow with the more normal CFB players around him.
(Media's #1 goal is to get attention.)
So looked for anything to slam Meyer.
and then Meyer threw a media member out of practice very publicly and Meyer became Media villain #1.
And they have never let that go...

Watching Swamp kings makes me mostly grateful that we got to experience that as fans. So grateful for Timmy T, maybe the only guy would could unseat Danny boy as the greatest Gator rep of our time.

But it also makes me sad, not because we've been such a bad team since then, but because I think NIL and transfer portable have changed the game in fundamental ways. I think THIS sort of college football, with all the loyalty and brotherhood, is dead. Now we have a bastardized mixture of amateur and pro.

And it reminded me that the 2009 SECCG was a transfer of the guard from our dynasty to Bamas. They haven't looked back since, which is incredible. And we haven't recovered from that moment, which is also incredible.

Re: Cam. There was the laptop incident, but also academic issues, including rumors that he was caught cheating. Because UF can't speak publicly about such student issues, we never heard the whole story, but word was going around that he was going to be kicked out of school

Some parallels with Meyer/Addazio and Mullen/Hevesy, loyalty and all that jazz got a guy into a job who had no business being there.

Notice at anOSU that Urbs didn't promote from without for his OC, he went out and found the best candidate, he learned, Mullen didn't.

This does paint Urban in a much more positive light, but I still do not like that he quit, came back and basically let Dazzler run the show and bailed the next year. I also do not love that he used the spending time with my family reason and then did a very short stint on TV and a year later was back coaching a major University. Appreciate the championships he brought to the University and hope he has really learned to deal with his stress.

Water under the bridge now and we hope CBN can truly get FL back to where they should be.

1.) All teams have loyalty and brotherhood. I don’t see what we had that any of the new teams don’t.

2.) NIL is only like 2-3 years old. That isn’t what left us behind. We lost it way before that.

3.) One could argue that 2008 team represented the start of the new era because it was increasingly a national team. If it were 15 years earlier, Harvin would have been at Virginia Tech, Hernandez at Penn State or Syracuse, Spikes at UNC, Haden probably at Penn State, etc.

    1. I didn't say other teams didn't have it. Just that NIL/portal is making THAT sort of team a thing of the past. More me-first and folks leaving at the first sign of a better opportunity.

    2. Agreed. NIL,etc had nothing to do with our demise. My point was that moment (2009 SECCG) is when the demise began...
    And we still haven't recovered.

It’s not a necessary condition, but it’s a sufficient one. Time to do what’s right by the man and all the men who played for him and induct him in. The timing going into this season, concurrent with the release of Swamp Kings would make it very special.

To not do it now would be missing a huge opportunity to put an exclamation point on 2005-2009

If you look up the requirements for the ROH he meets the minimum but may lack the “in good standing with the institution”. one of the requirements to get in and maybe why he hasn’t yet been inducted.

I’m not sure I agree that Meyer belongs in the “Ring of Honor” at UF. The criteria isn’t just for success in a sports career.

Edit: To say….. I have no problem with Meyer, in general. Life can get complicated fast. I just disagree with him in UF’s Ring of Honor, specifically.
But, if we announce he’s in it one day, I won’t begrudge the designation, either.

Just finished the series. What a time to be a Gator. I hope every current player and incoming recruit watches that and realizes what this program is supposed to be. Meyer gets my vote for ROH.

I’m happy with Napier. He seems much more emotionally balanced and in control than Meyer. He is getting the recruiting thing nailed down.

The timing of swamp kings is interesting. Maybe Netflix knows something about this program we don’t…

Honor being a big part of the phrase too. The movie makes you feel bad for him no doubt but if it were a hit piece and they did air all tge dirty laundry, how would we feel now?
