You and me are just different then. I don’t go there with chicks out of respect for mine.

First of all, you don't know what he actually did. Imposing your moral code on the rest of the world isn't cool.

Regardless, Meyer brought us two National Championships. He deserves to be in.

It’s not my moral code, it’s just having class. If others want open relationships or whatever, more power to them.

    1. If you think about it, if the writers did what they should have done in 2001, Rex would have won the Heisman and if he did, he would be in. Rex should not have to pay the price for the writers being wrong.

    2. The current list and most peoples next in line list is heavily skewed toward skill position players. On every play, there are 5 offensive linemen on the field. Somehow or another there needs to be consideration for Lomas Brown, Jeff Mitchell, Maurkice Pouncey, etc.

Debilitating stress + 2 Ambien a day would crack anyone. Plus I've always assumed he was on uppers just to function during daytime.

The fact that he bounced back and won a 3rd at osu is about as remarkable as it gets in life, like it or not.

On another note, those scenes lifting weights were intense. Any current player has to be looking pretty hard in the mirror to see if they recognize any bit of that kind of obsession.

    Agree 100% on #2.

On #1: I forgot about Eric Crouch, what a weird year in Heisman voting. That said, I never considered Rex to be at the Danny/Tim level. I saw him on Tier 2 alongside Kerwin Bell. No disrespect meant to either.

Still on the Ring of Honor, it is pretty arguable Joe Haden had an equivalent career to Wilber Marshall, with the exception that by Haden's era no players as good as him stayed for their senior seasons.

Marshall was all-America his junior and senior seasons. He made NFL All-Pro twice and Pro Bowl 3 times. He won 2 Super Bowls but that is a team stat.

Haden was all-America his junior season and theoretically would have been a slam dunk had he played his senior season. He made NFL All-Pro 3 times but somehow never made the Pro Bowl. He was drafted by the Browns so of course never sniffed a Super Bowl in his peak prime.

And I don't think people realize how rock solid a case Maurkice Pouncey has.

    Consensus all-America as a junior
    Rimington Award
9 Pro Bowls (Emmitt had 8 and Youngblood had 7)
    NFL 2010s all-decade team

They wrote a script that can’t let all the best players in. Any list tgat doesn’t include Percy is just wrong. Wes? I’m sure the oldest guys know others that I never saw. Fred for sure but you are absolutely right that certain positions are written out. The Ring is pretty damn exclusive though and I like that too. There will never be 30 guys in. If you change it, many more would be deserving.

Wow, I guess I don't follow the NFL that closely. Damn impressive.

There are people who think he was overrated. It’s arguable Jason Kelce could have taken his place along Alex Mack who also made it but Steelers players get hype. That’s besides the point- stuff like the Ring of Honor is all about paper accomplishments and not vibes and Pouncey is potentially the most accomplished Gators football player ever on paper.

The vitriol towards Meyer has really taken this quote out of context over the years.

    This is what he said:

He really didn't denigrate the program. He was just saying UF deserved better than what he could give.

Thank you. This obsession over how Meyer left is beyond ridiculous. It’s like he took his 2 crystal balls and Timmy’s Heisman with him when he left

Nothing malicious about that quote at all. If someone doesn’t like Meyer for his coaching style, his attitude, his behavior then that’s perfectly fine, no need to make up stuff he didn’t do/say.

Thanks Mag — reading through that Q&A just made me feel even stronger about getting him in the ROH. The players stood behind him and still do — why are these “fans” so obsessed with the hate. Passing judgement over the word ‘honor’? We take ourselves way too seriously

Yeah I agree, that's why I still remember it 14 years later despite it not being very heavily publicized. Nobody asked him to bloviate and b.s. about it like that, it was his choice. If he tried to pen a more contradictory statement after the fact I doubt he could, it's almost comical.
