Supreme Court rules for coach whose prayers on football field raised questions about church-state se

Inspired by this patriot, I am spending the next few weeks planning how to maximize publicity and create a media frenzy at the 10 scheduled Friday Night Right Fights that start in August. The coolest thing about it is they provide an intermission by having children play sports in between the important thing, forced public acceptance of my opinions.

 

To be honest, I'd have a problem with the coach holding prayers meetings at his house. Or playing video games with some players at his house. Not on a church/state or constitutional basis, but on a superior/subordinate basis. It just doesn't look right. A barbecue with the entire team at the coach's house, maybe.

 

@tilly, here is an easy way to see if you believe what this guys was doing was wrong or not.

Imagine that rather than a Christian this guy was a Muslim and that he was calling his football team around him to pray to Allah using lessons from the Qur'an.

Would that be ok?

 

They all say they would, its easy to sound principled with a hypothetical

 

It is the same way with open carry, they are all for it until someone who doesn't look like them walks down their subdivision w/ an AR-15 in his hands.

 

Anyways, who cares what he thinks? Even if he's being forthright, its not like he's the one that will be firing the Muslim football coach or sitting on a court ruling on it.

 

I have addressed this Muslim angle multiple times in this thread. As long as he didn't require or discriminate he is legally allowed to do so.

 

Think what you want. I'm pretty consistent.

I hate open carry. Thats part of what I wish folks would see. Some of us don't formulate our positions based on the expectations of a certain side.

There are literally single issues that would make you think I am a raging liberal and certain issues that would make you think I wear a MAGA hat.

It's actually freeing. I can speak my true opinion and you can trust its sincere. (Like in the Muslim coach scenario).

 

As I said in a follow up, it doesn't matter, its not like you will be tested. None of us will. If it were to happen, its just as easy to lament something you have no power to do anything about either to gain imaginary TH credibility points.

 

It doesnt look right? Coaches have team cookouts/hangouts in all kinds of sports. This isnt unusual.

I've repeatedly said, IF he said that than he was wrong and crossed the line of separation and establishment.

 

Its true of everyone on here, don't take it personal. Its all abstraction for basically everyone posting. Like 80% of the content here is people asking for denounciations or trying to prove someone is hypocrite.

 

If it's a team function, OK. Just don't host little special interest events, whether it's Jocks for Jesus, or Dungeons and Dragons. It demonstrates special access, and breeds distrust and resentment.

 

This case reminds me of McCullen v. Coakley in its Rorschach qualities. That is the 2014 USSC decision that struck down the 35 foot buffer zone around abortion clinics. In the eyes of the majority, the buffer zone excluded old ladies seeking to cordially engage and offer guidance to those entering the clinic, barred by the zone and mean spirited aggressive escorts. To most of the rest of the world, those that seek to confront women entering clinics are rude and threatening harassers.

In this case, some see a simple faithful coach living his beliefs, praying alone, to which some of his charges are magnetically drawn to and inspired by his example. Much of the rest of the world recognizes an archetype, someone they have known, that self-righteously seeks attention and confrontation, self-promotes, and uses his position of extreme authority (even the most accomplished pros remain deferential and humble in the presence of their HS coach), to create a coercive atmosphere of Christianist dominion.

Whether this coach is more one than the other is not the point. I haven’t looked it up, as I don’t really care. This is larger than one person. This decision has encouraged and created space for the latter, cultivated and pursued by ideological lawyers seeking to create Dominion, and seeing this decision as a vehicle to get there or at least get closer.
