I'm sure our % is high....but I seriously doubt that number is accurate

that’s why the people slurping for completion percentage are so off base.

Wonder why the percentage passes thrown behind the LOS on 3rd and whatever is

I now think you are correct. An article this week quoted Pro Football Focus as showing 94 of 301 of UF's targets are behind the LOS: about 31%. That's still a huge number.

Another article I found from early in October said 34% were thrown behind the LOS, and an additional 35% were thrown within 10 yards of the LOS.

So, nearly 70% within 10 yards of LOS. But, it has been effective enough. The offense has produced 135 points in the past 4 games.

Plot twist, the people slurping for completion percentage are just as off base as those slurping for passes behind the LOS.

I’m old enough to remember Mertz completing passes on first and second downs, and lining up for 3rd and 11…but yeah, 2/2 to start the drive lol

I wonder what the avg yards are for the throws behind the line are compared to hand offs? I view it as an extension of the running game aka the west coast offense. Short high percentage passes getting playmakers in space. Oline and a running game would help all phases. We don’t have the protection to pass long as our bread and butter and we can’t run between the tackles constantly against good front sevens either. Sometimes you have to take what you can get. Hand it off or throw it in under two seconds, pick your play.

Also a little misleading because all the motion pitches to Wilson and Pearsall are considered completed passes, when in actuality they are a glorified running play

Too many talented freshman for you? Lol... Much more help is on the way.

For the record I am kind of frustrated too. We should have found better help in the Transfer Portal last year.

But I do believe we are heading in the right direction, without a dobt. Lagway and company will be a class of players that will be an immediate lift for our overall team talent... and we should score in the portal too.

Even with Mertz, with one more year, will be a huge gain next year... then add Lagway to the mix and I would love to see some QB sets specifically for him... if we get a creative play designer to help Napier on offense.

Yeah. I go back to my facetious question about why throws behind the LOS are considered a forward pass.

It is risk vs reward as defined by coach. Are we behind and need to open it up vs content to run ball control.

I would vote for a new DC before an OC but both are needed. I hope he gets an OC that never runs that silly fake jet sweep thingee.

If the throwing of the ball is overhanded lateral to the LOS or behind the LOS, it is considered a pass. Laterals are usually underhanded. I do agree with your comment.

Where's the double-face-palm emoji when I need it?

Good lord, guys. I know what a forward pass is. My comment was facetious, an intentional mockery of UF's offense going nowhere, or sometimes backward, when throwing forward. OK?

No idea if this is accurate but I guess the "eye" does tell us most of our passes are relatively short distance. Which is why I have no idea why there's so much gushing over the completion percentage.
