This seems like a step down job for him. He has been a P5 offensive coordinator.

 

Coaches do this all the time now a days. Saban brought in a bunch of ex coaches to hang around as analysts. Tulsa’s new regime didn’t retain him so he was free to go wherever. Maybe he wants to recharge his batteries, so to speak. Here, he gets to be involved with a big time program while simultaneously spending time with his parents. Doesn’t hurt his father is one of the greatest play callers in college history. I doubt he will be an analyst this time next year, though. He’ll either coach somewhere else or get hired on as a position coach.

 

I have to agree. It's like Napier's coaching think tank... a way of getting talented coaches on the same page as Napier with regard to coaching styles, schemes and principles. He needs to get talented coaches trained to run his (Napier's) offense. Napier needs these coaches to understand his preferred offensive schemes.

 

Stepping down in order to be poised to step up is a common approach these days with the frequent movement of coaches. Analyst positions are merely a holding spot. My wild guess is that we should stay tuned. Also, it can't be anything but a good thing to have yet another conduit into Steve Sr's great offensive mind as it relates to the QB position.

We should not forget that he also coached under Mike Leach. Spurrier and Leach are two of the great ones from the past few decades of college football.

Is he aware that under no circumstances do we use 4 or more wide receivers even if those are the best players available… and never use tempo unless you’re down by 2 tds
Kidding aside - I’m excited about the increased role for Callaway and SOS jr. Jr coached under Leach and Kevin Wilson who I Appreciate. Wilson failed at Tulsa but his run/pass balance and playcalling is underrated.

 

Don't get mad but honestly I think Napier needs to open up to the ideas of the coaches he brings on board. We all hope that's why he has these guys around. 64th offense, so I doubt they are on board to learn Napier's way of thinking.

 

If you read what I post in the "talking season," you would already know I was being very friendly with how I worded what I posted.

Yes, the one (coach) that needs the new ideas is already in the house, so-to-speak.

Maybe that is the true intent.
