Since the thread has segued into general protection, a friend of ours was robbed today, in broad daylight, in the parking lot of an upscale mall here in Charlotte.

She was ready to back out, looked into the rear view mirror, and noticed a lady standing behind her car barring her exit.

She acted on her first instinct which was to open the door to ask the lady to move, whereupon a man reached in and grabbed her purse.

Obviously, you wouldn’t need an AR-15, but something as modest as brandishing a .22 would probably have deterred the crime.

Alarm systems create the illusion of security but are not engineered to prevent crimes before they occur.

That’s what Ring cameras are purported to do … if you’re prepared to answer your phone 24/7 … and if you don’t get tired of endless false positives.

There are systems, I refer to them as virtual guards, where motion activations send video to live humans, in a monitoring station, who then verbally confront the would be intruder over two-way microphone.

In my experience a mere verbal confrontation, by a live person, dissuades the would be intruder the vast majority of the time.

Such systems are pricier than alarm system, a minimum $100 a month with the company I sold for. But that’s a tiny fraction of what you’d pay for a security guard on premises.

Lmao! The same prudes who were shitting their britches over COVID, wearing double diapers on their faces, alone in their cars, vaxing up 19x, whining a bloody hissy fit over others not vaxing...

....are the very same ones whining about ppl getting guns to protect themselves against the threat of criminal assailants, crazed mass shooters, robbers, burglars, would be rspists, gang bangers, and so many other threats...

Narrow point taken. But Napier has taken enough shots of late. Back to the Old Ball Coach.

Well, you're a commie--government is your god, your religion.

Freedom lovers view government as ever a latent threat that needs to be kept on check--the primary rationale behind the 2nd Amendment.

Self defense is a secondary consideration, along with hunting and sport.

Not when 99% of the goobers who love guns worship cops and the military, they are just unpaid government employees volunteering to shoot citizens, protestors and border crossers on their behalf. At least cops and troops are smart enough to get paid for it.

I believe it is a sensible strategy to arm ourselves against common criminals the likes of which victimized a friend today.

Based on the events of 2020 I scoff at the imagery of Americans arming themselves against criminal governments.

Like I said, all the people arming themselves fantasize more about shooting people actually protesting the government than they do about somehow battling government tanks or whatever. If you are buying a gun, you are protecting the status quo, you are basically signing up to be a free cop for the government. Congratulations suckers!

Out of curiosity, which weapon is as deadly as a semi-auto rifle with a 20+ round clip and red dot optic?

On a global scale it's readily apparent. The gun range that serves food/drink - please tell me they don't serve alcoholic beverages.

Well if their solution is to spend their money and do security work for free instead of demanding better from their government, that's pretty stupid of them. Maybe gun owners are the type to go into the kitchen and start cooking for no pay on the line if they dont like the food at a restaurant too? Good to know our defenders of freedom have the ultimate bootlicker mentality.

I’d be very surprised if they did serve alcohol. It might even be against the law.

A number of years ago I went along with a friend to a private machine gun shoot. They had about 100 people there. Some guy popped open a beer and he was immediately kicked out of the place.
