Is that for alcohol sales in Florida? When I was in the biz here in Texas we paid 14% of gross receipts on alcohol sales.

 

There's no alcohol tax on the back end in Florida. My guess is there may be on the distributer side but I'm not sure.

I mean, I joke about it but the 17% is the same for every garbage company, and it all just gets passed on the the consumer. So really, its just an annoyance.

Interesting. In Texas they changed the tax rate about 10 years ago, from 14% of gross receipts to an 8.25% sales tax plus 7% of gross receipts. So the net result was a 1.25% tax increase. But all the bars used it as an excuse to raise their prices by 8.25% and blamed it on the sales tax, never mentioning the part about the big reduction in gross receipts tax.

 

Just did some estate planning actually, not even worried about an estate tax despite owning multiple properties. Im not going to get there and neither are you.

 

Yeah, trash pickup isn't very elastic. You gotta have it, so that's why they tax the hell out of it. It's just another way for Florida to hide taxes so people don't know they're paying them, all the while crowing about not having a state income tax.

 

You better hope your Republicans don't cut your social security benefits. I have a feeling you're gonna need them.

 

You want to have it both ways. If liberals take on government mistreatment of people, say in the cj system, you can't find anything wrong with govt and get even angrier at liberals, but then question liberals about caring about govt effing with people? The leeches are the rich people in this country, they largely collect rents and interest and the pass their wealth to their even more useless kids and use their money to get you rubes mad about the estate tax and taxes that you'll never have to pay.
