"Analysts" are allowed to be on the sideline. They're not allowed to actively coach, but watch any college football game and you'll see them doing just that.

 

Never said the offense was bad. The play calling and the poor use of timeouts is what I take issue with. I still have nightmares about the FG team running out while the offense is looking at them. Keystone cops is what popped in my head when I first saw that.

 

So what if he doesn’t bring in an OC or ST coach and we are fairly successful? Is he still gone? Is he a failure? Do we fire everyone and start from scratch again?

I would answer NO, if you define successful as 6 - 6 in 24, with a settled locker room and no flaming controversies, (and a decent recruiting class), he will be at UF in 25.

 

I thought I heard they can’t have a headset was the main difference. They can be on sideline and coach. I think.

 

Coaches come and go....and when there is an exit at this time of year, particularly like SC going to BC, well that says a lot. Coaches "know" if where they are at a place that can be successful. My opinion without a drop of evidence, some have accepted positions under Billy because that was the best they could do at that time. Then an equal or even slightly inferior offer comes in, they flee. They flee because if one spends one week with Billy, they may know that he does not know what he is doing or that he is simply inept.

It is the same in business, go looking for change with better benefits and the best is at X company. Take the offer and start. X is clearly ho hum and may not be around in 3-5 years. Then Y appears....run to it if Y is more profitable and better managed.

Coaches "know" Billy needs to win 8 to keep his job. They know the schedule. They know he loses games he should have won. They know Princely, ETN, etc. left. They know he is horrid at game day management. They know what players say about his S&C program.

Knowing that, would you rather stay with him or leave for an equal offer?

As for me, being a Gator fan for 100 years, I would accept the job and have in my contract if Billy quits or is fired I am guaranteed to be named the Interim Head Coach for the entire remaining season.

You seem pretty down on the staff. I suppose going 11 - 14 does not inspire confidence.
Hopefully the "coaches changing job stuff" is not quite as foreboding a picture as you paint.
Then again, there is a resonable logic behind your post.

The only thing is that for me Benny Hill made me laugh versus crying when watching another special teams blunder

 

I don't see any rules about who can wear the headsets, just that you're only allowed to use 20 total, 15 for staff and 5 for players. What little I could find said they're not allowed to actively coach during the game. They also have restrictions for recruiting. I think both of those rules are pretty widely ignored. You definitely see analysts coaching guys up though. Watch any Bama game that had Butch Jones on the sideline.

UF's offense improving from decent to elite would be significantly more impactful than the D going from bad to decent. The stats and numbers support that sentiment.
