I am a Billy guy and think he will get us where we need to be. But year 2 and special teams are still special (bad way) and TE is a non factor. Need to go with young guys on TE and bring in a new ST coach.
Step 1: get a special teams. Florida has “game changers”, whatever that means. Step 2: get a special teams coach. Step 3: Maybe not embarrass ourselves on TV with botched 1 and 2 point after attempts. Bonus: Figure out why we struggle to make 30-yard field goals.
Step 1: Admit you have a problem. Step 2: Hire a ST coach. Step 3: Stock your Special Teams with playmakers.
2 Games in you figure they would’ve hired a special teams coach and he would have an All-American tight end by now
These are good coaches why is it so tough for us to be just good on ST. Don't a few coaches have their hands on ST, so just having 1 coach is better. They will cost a game if we don't improve. I can see 8-9 wins. Geo FSU, LSU could be losses no one else. Win 1 of those we get to 9.
Maybe? We may never know. The position is not important enough to warrant much thought from this staff. (Maybe that is a bit harsh, but Napier will get harsher criticism the more this affects game outcomes.)
I find it hard to believe any coach doesn't value a good place kicker, so can't agree with your assessment.
The TE room wouldn’t be a problem if he ran a different O, but TEs may be more important than WR and RBs in the Napier O. They are the absolute key to make things go
Steps four, five, and six: 4- check to see if you have repeated numbers on special teams 5- decide if players with repeated numbers will stay on special teams 6- if YES on 5, force a guy to change jersey numbers permanently
Another perspective would be that he was hired on November 28, 2021 and he still doesn’t have a ST coach. How does one ascend to that position seemingly not grasping the importance of this? I get that All-American tight ends aren’t growing on trees but you would think in year two he’d have found a couple of serviceable ones, developed a couple or changed his game plan to suit the strengths of what he has instead of pounding that square peg.
Kirby Smart got hired 7 years ago and handles ST just like UF does.....wonder how he doesn't grasp the importance
Crazy how we had arguably the best TE ever in college football and cant find one worth a damn after churning out Kyle.
You were complaining about the coaching structure for special teams, and uga handles the same way uf does.....and many programs do. FYI, very few teams have a dedicated special teams "on field" coach. They either have a support staff coach handling special teams (uf, uga) or they have a position coach assigned to that role in addition to his position responsibilities. I prefer the former
