Spurrier must be thinking where was the 12 team playoff when I coached

They were independent at that time

My bad, I thought they were in the ACC. I seem to remember them playing a lot of ACC basketball teams during that time.

So I live here in SC and know a lot of USCe fans.
Theoreticals are tough but that's the question to me- do they go back to the ACC when the SEC first expanded. (Assuming we took FSU.)
It's easy to say yes, but USCe burned a lot of bridges when they left the ACC.
Also the ACC already has the state of South Carolina with Clemson- so its not like SC adds a market.

IMO the most likely scenario is that they stay independent and join the SEC when TAMU joins- as someone else said.

But also- does Holtz and Spurrier come to USCe if they are not in the SEC.
    I doubt it.

I’m inclined to agree with you. We moved to Columbia in 1990 and lived there through the decade of the 90s. I remember waiting on the edge of my seat hoping for the semis to decline the SEC because USCe was ready to jump at the opportunity. The Gamecocks had nothing going on as an independent — they were still reliving distant memories of George Rogers. It was a wonderful thing to get SEC football in Columbia. And it was a fun place to live while UF was living its best decade ever.
