It’s terrible to even have to worry about as a program. I fully expect to lose a couple. You know the mutts are coming for our guys hard. The best way to slow that down is to buy their guy for double price . Let’s just hope we are buyers more than cryers. We need to show them payback for ETN and make it hurt. We won’t miss a rb but take something substantial from them. I’ve got my $20 ready.
I doubt they overpaid for him as they aren’t desperate for someone to give the ball to. The only reason to overpay for him would be to stick it to us. Now, that may have happened because they don’t really need him
Looking at the roster, we are not that deep. Remove the true FR and seems to leave Montrell, Webb, Cam Carroll, Jakobi Jackson. Two are Seniors so room next cycle for two RBs. Roster says true FR Jaden Baugh is 237. If true, how can staff keep a player that size at a reasonable weight going forward? Maybe he can play and cause serious damage at 250?
He makes a few long runs a year that others may not make but it’s the hundred snaps that make the total package and we won’t be lacking at rb. I don’t think national championships go through rbs.
Webb and two sophomores next year may be plenty along with a couple more freshman next year. Rb depth from the portal is always there depending on how those three shake out. RBs want touches their sophomore years.
It 100% says that, but, if you believe contact before the portal it isn't happening then you're mistaken.
I do agree with you. Basically this scheme is based on the honor system. The same honor system we had back in the 1960's when the likes of Bama and UGA could buy and shed players at will. This was in the day when there the boosters made $50 to $100 handshakes in the locker-room after a game. Also, when players had part-time jobs at auto dealerships (never seen punching the time clock).
And a coach personally do so would just be dumb. Nil can be offered by anyone though and I’m sure the bagman can figure out some way to let the kid know which team he represents without being in violation of such lax rules.
If there’s a will there’s a way. It’s too easy now to even try to fight it. Hopefully they come up with some way to stabilize the rosters and get a fair payout to the kids.
Yeah, says "coaches" are not allowed to make contact but doesn't mean a player couldn't be notified by another source that a staff is interested.
Again, I’ll say it, we are fine. That’s a major move to pick up and leave in May for a young kid. And more importantly, Has to be somebody that has flashed. This doesn’t make much sense for our team, unless it’s us picking up a wide receiver or edge.
I’m not saying the portal or NIL doesn’t need to be fixed/clarified/governed… not saying that at all. My point was- the offseason is exciting, roster construction is exciting… kids not playing for “the love of the school” (if that’s even real or ever was)… doesn’t kill my love for the Gators or college football in general. And anyone who says it is - is lying. 10 years from now, we will all still be getting excited to watch game 1
Maybe or maybe not. It’s a different world. The players are hyper focused on their NIL. FYI, kids pick up and move in May all the time. Myself, I think UF is fine, but will not be surprised if things go sideways. On a side note, I know you’re big on spelling and grammar. So, when did we start capitalizing “Has” after a comma?
If there's a team that pays double what our NIL can afford, I can see SO/JRs from our two deep leaving. I say that only because if I were being paid 12k a month- if that's even a real average NIL number- two extra years at 150k means I own a house on graduation whether I make the NFL or not. I'm not saying players think that way. But are those numbers and actual NIL payouts even real? I'm just hoping our top players are bought-in to the program, paid reasonably well, and optimistic about UF. I don't want to think about 5 of our top players, regardless of position, leaving. Seems like we have depth, but are not DEEP.
