It’s getting rough out there… Sports Illustrated staff could be laid off as the iconic magazine’s publisher faces money troubles
Fake authors with AI generated content, bios and headshots. Sports Illustrated accused of publishing articles written by AI
Yeah, had heard that. Just like the tranny cover, these were all just symptoms of the underlying unsustainable business model.
Me too, kinda sad anyway. As a kid I couldn’t wait to go to the mailbox and pull that mag out. Would spend the next couple of hours reading it cover to cover. Good times.
I have to believe they mean those who are involved in print. The website has to be quite different. The Athletic attempted to be the internet version of SI. It sort of fell short or their goals. SI is still putting out content.
My father bought me a one year subscription as a birthday gift when I was kid, back in ‘82. I renewed ever since… until about 2010. By then most of the good writers were gone and I had a smart phone. I saved all the issues that had Gator related stuff on the cover. Still have the one where they declared us National Champs over Washington & BYU in ‘84.
That was a real magazine, owned by Time and with a staff that really cared. Also, some of the best photographers in the world. This is just a shell of its former self, owned by some lame private equity firm that's just trying to milk the "brand" for what it can. If you read the article, the whole thing is about lame contract disputes over the brand name.
Yeah, but The Athletic is my go to for deeper dives and credible information. They may have fallen short of that goal, but are still by far the best and most accurate source IMO.
I buy about 3 or so college pre season issues that come out about August or so. I get them when I’d see them at Publix. May also get about 2 NFL pre-season issues.
