even in the minority. Stepping back to a well deserved reduced role after providing great leadership. Truly impactful. May she get the appreciation she deserves
“You could argue she’s been the strongest speaker in history,” Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.), who clashed with her in the 1990s when he was speaker and she was a rank-and-file Democrat, said in an interview last year. https://www.washingtonpost.com/poli...ear-nancy-pelosi-stares-down-another-midterm/
The good thing is, this will end all irrational RW attacks of House Dem Leadership. They will be very respectful of Hakeem Jeffries. They're just solid that way - Nancy brought it upon herself
Will be interesting to see this process play out. She was obviously impactful, but I don't claim to understand what skill sets are most important for that position.
Read Molly Ball's bio of Pelosi -you have to be able to count votes, communicate with members, Senators, the WH and constituencies to craft legislation. There is just so much and she was a master, especially on timing and agreements. She is not a great public speaker but a master legislator. She had immense personal skills to maintain personal relationships with so many. This is inadequate, to be sure
She's an amazing woman, and has been an inspiration to so many women. She obviously loves this country and what it stands for, thus her intense dislike of Donald Trump, which I share. Some things transcend party, and fealty to Oath of Office is one of them.
Former Majority Whip Clyburn confirms the transition and the next generation that has support of the caucus
As one commentator implied her gracious departure from leadership to make way for a new generation could be a model for President Biden who probably should not run for a second term.
Don't jump for glee. There are 2 other high ranking democrats who are in their 80s and look who is waiting to take over. AOC already saying the days of the old guard democrats are coming to an end and this is ushering in the progressives.
Wasn't that impressed with her first tenure as Speaker, seemed to leave a lot of legislation on the table, but maybe not her fault as she had the tea partiers to deal with. However, she was quite effective in getting legislation passed while keeping the progressives on board during her second go at it. Good job of "herding cats" as the saying goes. Major props to her legacy, especially in dealing with Trump and crew. Dont really know much about Hakeem Jeffries, except that he is from NY, but good luck to him if he is next in line.
Wrong on both. Succession already planned. May prove unsuccessful in time, but no current conflict or drama
