I am not trying to top you CadGator, I became a Gator in 1962. I remember watching SOS play on TV and in person. I also remember at the end of the 1969 season the announcement of Ray Graves retiring and of Doug Dickless becoming the next head coach. In my opinion, Graves and the then UF Atheletic Department were infatuated in hiring not only a former Gator but the hot shot coach that retored the UT football program. Most of us know how that story ended. Like the old Thomas Wolfe novel, You Can't Go Home Again. That was not a complete loss, we did get Charley Pell.
My first game was in Gainesville against Kentucky in 1967. Harmon Wages was the QB. I think the final was 28-12? Went by the locker room after the game to see the players and this gentleman gave me a pen when he saw I had nothing to get autographs with. Watched the highlight show the next day, turns out it was Harmon Wages Dad. Great memory! I remember watching the Gator Bowl in '69 when we beat UT 14-13.
