DeSantis counters with threats of an investigation - into what one wonders. He should just take the L and move on.

Perhaps unfortunate timing for DeSantis that he's directing Florida government officials to investigate his political enemy, Mickey Mouse, while at the same time using his office to defend Trump from what DeSantis has decided can only be a political case against Trump (despite a grand jury indictment and the charges being sealed).

nice to see Iger finally speak out. All those pro business pub donors just did a double take on DeS as he dies on his antiwoke hill. Sold some energy stocks on a spike today and added more Disney. Wish we had men like Iger running for POTUS

    from the article

"The company has a right to freedom of speech just like individuals do," Iger said. "The governor got very angry about the position that Disney took, and it seems like he's decided to retaliate against us... in effect to seek to punish a company for its exercise of a constitutional right. And that just seems really wrong to me -- against any company or individual, but particularly against a company that means so much to the state that you live in."

Iger said that Disney plans to invest $17 billion in Disney World over the next 10 years, investments he said would create 13,000 new Disney jobs and thousands of other indirect jobs, attracting more people to the state and generating more taxes.

Iger got follow up questions from shareholders who questioned the company taking a postion against Florida's legislation. One shareholder asked if "it's wise to take political positions that satisfy a very small portion of people when our primary mission is entertainment?" Another shareholder criticized the company's actions, saying "Disney has turned from a place of magic for children to an ideological company... increasingly promoting the woke agenda."

Iger responded that his job of what's best for the company includes doing what's best for its employees, allowing them to flourish. He said there are times when it weighs in on controversial issues because of the importance to employees, and times he thinks it should not weigh in. He said that he is sensitive to criticism, including by some of the shareholders at the meeting, that the company is "creating agenda-driven content," but he denied that is the case.

Disney should put up a life size poster of DeSantis with a line drawn two inches above his head at the entrance to Space Mountain along with a sign that says "You must be at least this tall to ride this ride."

He’s also threatening to act legislatively again. He’s threatening criminal, legislative and I guess judicial retaliation this time.

We are ideological soulmates, but in this case, you are splitting hairs. You can call it fascism, you an call it communism, or you can call it authoritarianism, but bottom line...they ALL are dictatorships of one variant or another.

Actions that a fascist, an authoritarian, or a communist would take. Not that much difference.

Gotta chuckle at this. It's very, very hard to have a facially constitutional law struck down on First Amendment retaliation grounds. But our genius legislature and governor might just find their way into the very narrow exception.

If you look at the quotes of the governor, his aides, and the GOP legislators who pushed this, they basically admitted that they were retaliating against Disney for its speech. People like the governor, who have no respect for constitutional rights, have no business being in government.

In real life, which is where I live, the Communist theory of equality is bullshit because it’s not practiced. So, when you strip it away, your left with dictatorships.

He has many Courts in his pocket and sycophants as his advisors. It’s understandable why he thinks he’s always right, and has no appreciation for constitutional restraint.

I will say this, though. While I truly think the original retaliatory laws revoking Reedy Creek were unconstitutional, the second set of laws, of DeSantis goes that route, has a far better chance of passing constitutional muster. If the legislature meets and finds that Disney was acting improperly or unethically in what might be described as the self-dealing 11th hour restrictive covenants, the legislative initiative has a better chance of being upheld. It would not be retaliation for Disney’s first amendment free speech, it would be retaliation for actual conduct (entering into the restrictive covenants that “harm” the State and Counties).
