Apparently no fear of being rescinded. From a pretty accomplished lawyer friend

“It’s a legitimate action by the relevant entities. Off the top of my head, State Constitution, Art. I, Sec 10, I think. Legislature shall not impair a contract.

yup: SECTION 10. Prohibited laws.—No bill of attainder, ex post facto law or law impairing the obligation of contracts shall be passed.

Good luck legislating away a valid contract.”

what's amazing, but true, is that most of the CINOs on TH are on BIG GOV's side. How dare a private company have taxation AND representation.

Looks like Desantis and the guy who wrote the legislation got easily played by Disney. You know, because Disney has been in the state for 51+ years and knows the agreement with the state and the validity in the state Constitution (that was upheld by the Florida Supreme Court in 1968 for the new Constitution) inside and out while Desantis is clueless.

Dude is in over his head. He thinks he can play chess with world powers? He can't even out maneuver a theme park. All he can do is yell "WOKE!"

Did people really think that some idiot from what is fast becoming a backwater redneck dung-hole of a state was going to successfully match the legal acumen that one of the most powerful corporate entities in the nation, let alone the state could bring to into this fight??

Trump is having a field day. I saw a poll where he’s at 54% vs 24% for DeSatan in the GOP electorate. He’ll cruise to nomination and then get crushed by Biden. Youngkin knows he’ll be crushed too. I’d prefer Newsome but Biden it will be maybe he’ll ditch Karelia and run with him.

This is what I was thinking. Disney was awfully quiet with the threat that was happening and it was what I was hearing from those at Disney I know. They knew they had their i's dotted and t's crossed and knew the original agreement like the back of their hand.

The new "board" will definitely sue and protract this as much as possible because Desantis won't want a faceplant. One even said up to SCOTUS.

A great use of state taxpayer money.

Seriously WDW is a true libertarian’s wet dream.

Disney paid for every square inch of that place. From the buildings to the roads to the emergency services. And it is in far better condition than basically any publicly managed city in the country.

For “conservatives” to barge in and demand control over what Disney bought and paid for just shows you how few principles they really care about beyond their culture war nonsense.

And now threatening to spend millions in tax payer dollars litigating because they couldn’t steal as much as they hoped. Just smdh.

Love this little provision that they must have had a blast writing.

The declaration is valid until “21 years after the death of the last survivor of the descendants of King Charles III, king of England,” if it is deemed to violate rules against perpetuity.

You have to believe that the Disney and the Reedy Creek Board had planned for the day when the political winds shifted and their autonomy was threatened. We all should probably loathe this action by Disney, but because it is DeSantis and because it will rightly cost the taxpayers of Flor-i-duh $millions and millions to launch a hopeless fight, it is really, really funny to me.

Generally I am opposed to corporations setting and making their own rules with virtually no oversight and no accountability. However, in this case, I find it really funny.

wha? they are not void of oversight & accountability. Where do you get that weird ass notion? It boggles my mind to think of all the oversight they are subject to.

Mostly because Disney has largely done whatever the hell that they have wanted since 1967, which includes, though not limited to, not even being beholden to the state of Florida's environmental protection requirements.

While I love that they have basically just taken a massive public dump on the head of DeSantis and the Florida tax payers, let's not pretend that they are some repressed entity fighting "the man" just to try and survive. They shoved the state of Florida into a locker a long time ago.
