I believe UF admins are not handling this situation well. Conflicting messages from normally reliable sources. Just my opinion, CBN. Will make it at least until the By week. Whatever you are hearing, take it with a grain of salt. As far as recruiting. I consider every commit as not one. What would you do or what would you advise your son to do in this situation. The best we can hope is the recruits will ride this out and see who is hired as a replacement Soeaking for myself, i have little hope for a good HS class this year. Im surprised no one has decommited yet. If CBN is fired and ADSS tetained, i will literally barf in my breakfast cereal.
Thanks for the insight Candy. Personally weary of the drama surrounding this program. UF should deal with this immediately. Lots of “news” accounts that wheels are turning regarding CBN’s firing. Those are not fact based. Came to this site several times today for an update, only to see that same ole same ole.
I don’t trust Strickland to make the hire. Fire him and let Napier finish the season. Get a new AD by then.
I want them both gone immediately but I would take your version as a second option in a heartbeat. Unfortunately that snake Stricklin will slither his way to another failed hire.
Several schools are very unhappy with their head ball coaches already this year. If we are going to make a move, waiting until there's a log-jam for finding a head ball coach would be the biggest epic insult to injury I could imagine. Tell me our AD wasn't pissed when he let the worst assistant coach on Mullen's staff take the reins and lose to UCF in that bowl game. That was pure spite... or pure ignorance. This AD pisses me off the more I think about how that all went down. And that has nothing to do with what's he doing right now behind the scenes. But he had better look carefully this time around. Even the UGA fans on that hater site (TheRant, not that I believe one word over there) are talking about Kirby retiring after this year. If that's true, then we will be looking for the second-best coach, not the best... TIME IS CRITICAL. Here's the thing, too. We knew that we might have to replace Napier after last year's debacle, so a good AD should already have a short list of coaching candidates ready to be contacted (their agents, yes, I know) at any moment. The lists on other sites for the next Gator football coach, that I have seen, are rinse and repeat type coaches that we've already experimented with and have failed miserably... time for a new strategy... Go get the best, or you are not serious about the business of football in Gainesville. It's a business ... a lucrative business... if they can get the right coach to resurrect our listing football program.
I'm gonna take a guess as to what some of the issues might be When to fire him? Bye week? Who will be the interim coach? How do we keep DJ? What to do with AD and who is involved in the next hire? I could see all of the above causing some paralysis.
Appreciate the insights everyone. The Gator podcaster set all seemed to think an announcement would be made Sunday or today. Rick said: Here's the thing, too. We knew that we might have to replace Napier after last year's debacle, so a good AD should already have a short list of coaching candidates ready to be contacted (their agents, yes, I know) at any moment. Rick, I think this makes complete sense considering UF was 5 - 7, on a 5 game losing streak, and the #3 ranked, On3 class, fell apart on early signing day. Of course, the question is, did the AD perform such due dilligence??
Hello Marine, Sadly, I think UF will struggle mightily on the road Sept. 21st. Nape's road record is not exactly exemplar, and given the psyche of the team, I would not be shocked to come out of Starkville with yet another loss.
Thanks Candy, keeping my trap shut on this forumn, HOPING for no defections, but your thread makes complete sense. Perhaps the commits want to be Gators, several legacys are in this class. We may hope they are just sitting tight and playing "wait and see". Realisticly, they have plenty of time to wait it out, in that it is quite early.
I think the problem is that we don't have solid leadership right now. Thank God we no longer have sassy. But Fuchs is an interim president. I think that makes it really hard for him to make a decision to fire Strickland which is going to affect so much of the future of the football program and all athletics programs. I'll spare my opinion about the board of trustees but while they certainly are involved in the process and perhaps have ultimate authority, it really falls to the president and the athletic director to make these decisions. Plus there's the issue of a very large buyout coming on the heels of sassy's bullshit spending. I just think the entire organization is a bit of a mess right now and lacks leadership thanks to the powers that be installing an incredibly under qualified president whose only qualification was running a 1500 student small college in BFE Nebraska without a national search. The crap imposed on UF has affected us academically and now the lack of leadership it has created is affecting us athletically. What an FSU type shit show.
ESD is December 4th 2024. The regular season ends Nov 30th 2024. We will not have a coach by then so no way the current commits stick. Any high caliber coach will be in the playoffs(starting Dec 6th) 2024 so we might not have a new coach until Jan 2025
Bill Belichick, and get him an ace recruiting coordinator. ? Guy won upteen super bowls, he can coach college IMO. He likes the Gators too. Why not?
If we don't trust someone that is already one of our coaches? Meyer might be a transitional coaching option.
I agree with you, but the question is where is Urban on that? I also agree with Candy, that bye week seems to be the ideal time for Billy to be let go. If so, would be nice if Billy could go out with a "W" in Starksville this weekend. Not sure where Im at in as far as the next coach. Shane Matthews indicated that when Urban, and SOS were hired, the hiring process was handled primarily by the boosters.....for myself I wasnt aware of that if this is true? Shane indicated this morning that his understanding is that the boosters seem to be taking the lead with the hire this time as well......maybe a omen to something positive then?
The boosters basically told ADBA that he was toast if he didnt get SOS, with Urban it was more of Jeremy, go get this guy.
At first thought, I don't like the idea of the boosters making the decision. However, if they're going to bail us out of this mess, then I don't see how I can complain.
