It would not surprise me if schools who’ve always cheated, continued to cheat. It also would not surprise me if a school who’s mostly played within the lines since Pell continued to do so.

NIL funds and deals are in the hands of the fans. You can’t just sit back and point fingers at UF because you aren’t getting the deals done.

It’s not up to him, man. I can go give a kid a bunch of money to come to my niece’s birthday party if I want to. I don’t have to ask CBN for approval. The kid just has to tell UF about it.

I never blamed UF for the bungled Rashada deal. We don’t know which side bungled it, but we know it was a third party. UF sent the kid an LOI and he signed it, so they were ok with accepting him as a student athlete. If the money didn’t come through, or the kid wanted the deal changed, not much UF can do about it. They aren’t allowed to just go fund it themselves, and they don’t define the actual terms of the deal, even if they were giving some input on the dollar amount.

Wondering if the bromance between Lagway and Smith is an issue here or the amount of attention Smith has been getting from the staff. I personally hope he reaffirms his commitment to OSU so we can move on. I really want to see Moore in this class. We need that tall outside WR that can go up and bring that less than perfectly-thrown ball down with him.

True. I’m still inclined to think that’s not happening at UF, especially with NIL front and center in recruiting

I don't blame UF either....but maybe there was some wishful thinking on both parties hands that the funds would still come through. It did seem the kid wanted to come here. However, no matter what happened it left a lot of egg on faces and until a worse case comes along it has left UF as the poster boy for bungled NIL deals.

I think it’s unlikely too, but that’s because we don’t have many guys like Ruiz, who, one, have the money to do it, and two, want/need the individual credit for making things happen.

Most of our big money guys would prefer to be involved in something more structured, hence the Florida Victorious, and several of our known heavy hitters being directly involved in that entity. It’s still not UF’s money though. They aren’t cutting the checks or lining out the details of the individual deals.

If Hathcock or Condron wanted to make a move outside of the collective, they surely can, as can you, and all the people complaining that we’re cheap and unable to close. Before calling someone else cheap, open up your own damn wallet. Just keep in mind that even something like 100k a year, which is already way out of reach for most of us, is just a drop in the bucket, and likely doesn’t even lock up one, moderately ranked, recruit. Keep that in mind when you’re bitching about how other people spend their money. (Not singling you out, skink or crusher, just ranting).

It’s a bad look, no doubt. It’s also not something that’s all that easy to prevent. Unless you have the money, and you’re drawing up the contracts, you’re at the mercy of the people who have the money and draw up the contracts. I think UF made moves to help prevent things like this from happening again, but there’s still no guarantee that it won’t.

Big business deals fall through all the time. Imagine how many more would fall through if laws prevented the two main parties involved to actually work the deals out amongst themselves. Ford wants to buy GM, but the law requires Honda to fund the deal, and Toyota to negotiate the terms. Lol. It’s chaos, like you said.

Candy given what we’ve seen from Napier & Co from the transition, bump and current recruiting classes do you believe this staff is capable of recruiting at a high enough level to catch up with the likes of Bama, UGA, Ohio State?

No, but that's a good start. I want however many Napier feels he needs... 5 or 6 is better.

I’m saying money talks and bs walks no matter who is funding or who is for or against it. If we can’t sign the players, we won’t get them and we can blame Gumby if we want.

Saban knows his deals are being made, and he doesn’t need to be involved. All he needs to do is make it known which players he wants. If his recruiting classes were not what they were he could go somewhere else were somebody would provide them for him

That isn’t really what you said, but I think we’re mostly on the same page. I agree that if the funds aren’t available, we’re going to have issues recruiting.

That’s pretty much what I’m saying man. We’re kind of hitting different points, but I think we’re mostly on the same page.

I agree that we need to have NIL money available in order to compete. I also agree that Saban and Kirby likely just have to point the dogs in the right direction, and pretty much said that in one of my earlier my posts.

My posts were more about the finger pointing. People keep blaming the admin and coaches for NIL shortcomings. I’m trying to get people to understand that the responsibility of funding and closing those NIL deals falls much more in our lap than Billy and Scotty’s. If you’re looking for someone to blame for not having enough money available or for deals falling through, you can look in a mirror. If you want to make sure the deal gets done, anyone here is now able to go get it done themselves. If you’re unwilling or unable to do so, that’s on you, not Billy. If you donate to a collective and don’t like the way the money is being handled, that’s on you. Go start your own. I wish you the best of luck.
