UF did not win its first conference title in 1991, nor 1990, nor 1984. It won the Southern Conf title in 1923. Yep. That year the Southern Conference (previous name for SEC) consisted of some 21 teams including the usual suspects, plus Maryland, Washington & Lee, Clemson, Sewanee, etc. UF lost its opening game to Nat'l power Army and went 6-1-2. That is an overall record of .778 winning percent. Maryland went 7-2-1, an overall of .750. In conference play UF went 1-0-2 a .667 to Maryland's 2-1 a same 0.667. But overall we had the better overall record and in Alabama Tradition and Logic, UF won the Conf title which was not named the SEC but was the precursor of the SEC (see Pac 12, Pac 10, Pac 8 which was previously named the Athletic Association of Western Universities). Take Southern Cal for example, they claim the Conf title in 1967 and 1968, under the name of the conference of AAWC. Is not AAWC = Pac 8 or Pac 10? I think we should stake claim to that conference title, after all we won it on the field or at the worst, tied for it on the field. Next up. National Champs from 1990, inclusive is 33 years. Multiple NC have taken 24 of the 33 titles, with single winners such as Colorado, Washington, Southern Cal, Texas, UT, Auburn, Michigan, and Oklahoma. Multi title winners are only 8 of the 130 or so teams that suit up in Div 1. Only 8 in 33 years. Bama 7 UF 3 fsu 3 Lsu 3 Uga 2 Clemson 2 Ohio St 2 Nebraska 2 So we've done ok compared to the rest of the 122 or so teams out there. It's great to be a Florida Gator. Now let's go build on winning a few more!!!
