if a coach gives up on the season, how can you not expect the players to follow his lead, and how can a coach in good conscience criticize a player for doing so?
oh my my my.... I understand this season was F ed up.. but how do you as a head coach give up on a season? Fake it till you make it.
what is disprectful about it? You took a piece of my post and twisted it. Nice job being respectful yourself
The first piece was a legitimate disagreement with the post. Fair game. The second piece (which I quoted) was just blowing a raspberry. Not cool.
Most of us on the board are very passionate about this team. As a result of currently only having two pitchers and zero accurate information coming from the team we are frustrated. I think we have a right to be.
I think when you make comments like that person made is truly disrespectful and that is what sucked abouit it and I stand by my post..IT SUCKED!!!
Come on Johnny and big we all love softball and I enjoy both your thoughts. We are all sad and upset we did not get Vawter or Max. I personally know CTW did everything he could to get them . He knows we need other pitchers. He is working to get some. He really thought we had Vawter as she told him she was coming. There is nothing he could do when a young person looks only at the short term for cash which we do not have and can not match. CTW can not and should not tell us his every move. If it fails we all are pissed and if it is known, then other schools can try and preempt it without doing their homework. GO GATORS and see you at the games!
Why is it in the major sports we know who the Gators are recruiting, who is coming to visit, what they thought about their visit, and we even know who they are trying to flip. Why not the same in softball? Secondly, you can defend TW all you want and he his a great coach but he funbled the ball on this pitching staff. Even if he got Vawter, that only gave him three pitchers. I doubt if their is a Division I softball program in the country that is currently sitting with three or less pitchers.
I agree to an extent. I do not expect, or think it appropriate, to be advised of status of actual "negotiations" in recruiting be it high school or in the latest examples of Vawter and Maxwell. But I have never seen a program, in any sport, that is without any transparency as with Walton's program. There is no reason he can't announce (or at least not keep secret) that so and so is visiting....happens all of the time in other sports. It is fairly easy, but laborious, to figure out who we are after because all you have to do is look at who he follows. More than that, and where our lack of transparency really bugs me, is there is just dead silence what is happening with the team. Lugo is missing from the dugout for two full weeks. Not a word. All you have to say is "she is away for personal reasons and will return shortly". Or anything like that. Deep personal details are not appropriate or necessary. We have players injured and out for the year and the only way you know it is to train binocs on a dugout and see if you can figure out if they are hurt and where. Lefty doesn't play for a month and we have to guess if she is hurt and if there is a back brace under her uniform. I know we have had some fairly deep arguments on this board about that and some keep throwing HIPPA at me and I have adamantly rejected that argument with proof after proof after proof where that is only a technical possibility and rarely, if ever, an actual factor. In sport after sport after sport. Kelly has announced at LSU that each week they will release an injury report, virtually identical to NFL reports, in an effort to be more transparent and to blunt some possible behind the scenes gambling. There has to be some happy medium regarding what is discussed and what should remain in the locker room or wherever. But in the case of UF softball, it is almost entirely dead silence and I don't see that as caring about your fans and supporters at all. It doesn't have to be that way. It isn't that way in most every other program in softball and every other sport.
On another note.....does anyone but me think it strange that after several days there still hasn't been any official announcement regarding Maxwell to OU? I'm not implying I have any idea what that might mean but it is a vacuum I didn't expect.
Those sports have a lot more media and fans following the sport. Someone would actually have to go ask questions, then enough people would have to read the articles to make paying the media members worthwhile.
Absolutely true in context. Access is restricted. Walton doesn't do pressers. What we get is canned garbage from Herb Brooks, a paid employee and not a journalist. While Ainsely Lee has moved on to cover Auburn sports, she, or if the Sun deems it worth for a replacement, would ask the questions we would like to know. That is if she wasn't threatened to never be let in the door again if she asked a question Walton doesn't like. Really doesn't matter because Walton does not provide an opportunity for anyone to ask legitimate reporter questions. I'd have a bucket full of questions if I was there at a nonexistent presser. And I would probably get banned. Herb Brook's title is something like "Communications Director" which is a complete farce because there is no communication.
In May, I posted that the thing I most admired about Nick Saban was he busted his tail because he hated to lose more than he liked to win. Really successful coaches, in a number of college sports, are often making seven figure salaries working six months a year. It's probably hard to not get complacent. I think a few current UF coaches have fallen victim to that state of mind. It can be overcome. It takes self evaluation. It means firing an assistant coach that's a friend. When they need to go, not two or three years later. For historical perspective, and for those of you old enough to remember. Kmart was the original Big Box store. They rested on their laurels. They are dust in the wind.
And, again on another note, several UNC commitments have now backed off publicly stating it was because of the coaching change. Now, I don't know if any of them are worth thinking about, but one of them was a pitcher. Class 2024 so that won't help now but I still wonder if Dobbins actually has some beneficial relationships.
