Maybe the players moment coupled with our recent roster move this past week changed the locker room dynamic. I have a feeling this is all intertwined.
I think with the way we were moving the ball at will on offense, afforded the D to open things up and be more aggressive.
Just read the answer to your question on TOS: "Florida senior linebacker Ventrell Miller, who has been described by coaches and teammates as the heartbeat of the Gators’ defensive efforts, said keeping Texas A&M off the scoreboard in the second half was a priority after Florida allowed it to score 24 points on 307 total yards before the intermission. I think it just had to do with the halftime speech from some of the coaches and players,” Miller said of the Gators’ second half success. “We know we started off flat-footed, just taking ownership of that, and like I said, we just got the boys motivated second half and everybody came out and did their job, and we showed them how the Florida Gators defense can play.”
Deer hunters know that if a deer runs after being hit, you let it be for a bit to lay down and stiffen up. If you pursue too soon and jump it, it might run until it dies. I think the A&M QB died at halftime
CBN told coaches on defense they weren't going to get paid because scared money don't make money. I'll show myself out now.
Ventrell said it was an effort thing and he called them boys out at halftime. Ventrell Miller Postgame 11-5-22
Read that but hard to believe that's all it took. Seems like they would have had a harsh, frank meeting long ago.
There is the very real possibility that with the events early last week there is 1 voice speaking for the Defense now and not a divided unit. From where I sit 51 plays hard and when he says something the pups should follow his lead. Kinda a been there done that moment, someone who has paid their dues has earned the privilege of leadership and 51 definitely leads by example wrt effort.
Totally agree with second paragraph. Not buying into the first tho, too much like blaming one guy for past defensive failures.
Not blaming anyone if the unit responded to being called out for their collective performance in the first half and 51 has been vocal on the sidelines with minimal impact in the past. The possibility exists there was multiple voices or said differently multiple levels of effort on the unit for 7 games this season. Currently we have 1 data point not a trend. It is the hope moving forward of everyone here the last 30 minutes of defensive football will become the new normal wrt performance, scheme, effort and results.
