For the first time this year, defensive adjustments took place at halftime that led to second half improvements that won the game. Everyone will say aTm was missing half the team from the flu and their offense sputtered. Nope. My eyes saw defensive improvements and changes in the secondary, the LB corps, and along the DL. We forced 2 King fumbles, we defended passes well, we played good D and shut the Aggies down completely in the second half. Achane went from 100+ in the first half to 20 in the second half. What happened? What dis Billy or Toney knock loose?
We blitzed on almost every play. Run blitz, pass blitz. Delayed, LBs, off the edge, we threw the sink at him. And it worked.
Great post. Mindset and philosophy for sure as I saw more pressure, blitzes, more aggressive corners and safeties. I also saw a few personnel changes. Hats off to PT, Chaos, and the guys. That was good stuff. Almost wonder if Raymond spoke up.
I saw us rushing the passer more effectively. Saw more blitzing go put pressure on an inexperienced QB. I think we played more tight man coverage in secondary versus zone as well. However, some on this board more qualified than I based on their study of film and replay of the game. Curious to their feedback.
PLEASE!!!! aggressive from the start. Rattler too good to be given time. Has decent wheels but does not like yo be hit.
That's what I thought I saw. Didn't go back to the first half to confirm, but it appeared there were a whole lot more blitzes and stunts.
Had to be adjustments to the plan. Maybe we weren't expecting King and planned for the Freshman passer. All I know is that A&M had scored a high of 31 pts on the year and was on track to score 48 based on first half results if adjustments had not been made.
Not the guy for film analysis expertise, but I noticed tighter man coverage. I question why we haven't done more in past games?
GNFP better be giving tons of shout-outs on both his videos this week! @Emmitto will have a fun week taking notes for all of us. LOL!
Loved the terrorizing, rampaging D that the Gators played with the second half. Major props to Coach Napier, Coach Toney and the defensive staff, and the players. Hopefully this will give them many positive vibes going forward. This IS Gator style D! If only they had had gone after Hooker after he was dinged early against us....... Would have been nice to pop Bennett some too. That happened two years ago against them. I know Georgia has a good/great Oline, but if you send the right numbers against them the QB can be pressured AND hit. GO GATORS!!!!
It was easier to adjust when it became evident that King was going to beat us with his arm. Key on Achane and blitz.
I have to believe they began concerned about things and played like they usually do and then when the coaches had the time at halftime, they decided they could do a LOT more. And the players were sufficiently ticked at the ways things have been for quite some time that they embraced the changes. Now to keep it up.
From what I gathered, based on CBN comments, the players had a come to Jesus moment. Not sure that is what happened but it was my takeaway.
This. People on here act like man defense and "aggressiveness" is some sort of unbeatable combo. It just isn't. Was the right call yesterday given a QB who wasn't a run threat, wich is rare these days.
