"SECTION 23. Right of privacy. —Every natural person has the right to be let alone and free from governmental intrusion into the person's private life except as otherwise provided herein. This section shall not be construed to limit the public's right of access to public records and meetings as provided by law."

This is the entire privacy amendment to the Florida Constitution. The FLSCt has previously interpreted this language to protect a woman's access to an abortion. The political make-up of the court has now changed drastically with DeSantis appointments.

Keep on eye on the court cases.

And JMDZ, you may wonder why I'm being so emphatic. My point is that I don't want to treat this as if there are two reasonable interpretations, and the Florida Supreme "Court" is just picking between reasonable views. That's not what's happening here. They're doing what's politically convenient because they have the power.

I never suggested the Florida Supremes would be acting reasonably if they carved out an exception to the amendment, just that it is a distinct possibility. I'm sure every DeSantis appointee was vetted on this issue and only the ones who shared DeSantis' view got the nod.

What a wimp. I can’t imagine anyone being afraid of Andrea Mitchell but what would you expect from a chubby go-go boot wearing dwarf with a nasally voice? I haven’t seen him on any other channel except Fox anyway.

    I agree that it's a near certainty.

Why isn't there a constitutional amendment being proposed to protect abortion rights in the state?

There will be, once the DeSantis-controlled Florida Supreme "Court" does what we all expect.

I would start working on it now to ensure it gets on the 2024 general ballot. There will be a lot of Republican resistance and court challenges to that amendment.

And Florida’s constitution has a heightened level of privacy protection than the US Constitution, for what it’s worth …

The Gov is continuing to do what the vast majority of Floridians voted for him to do. As one of those I applaud him. Also Thank God for Governor DeSantis as well as those who get the opportunity to voice opposing opinions.

Because the opportunity of those who voice their opinion in opposition is fleeting, given his swift, merciless retaliation whenever he may do so.

My guess is the Florida Supreme Court would never allow a pro-choice amendment anywhere near the ballot unless it was worded in such a way that they could easily nullify its effect, similar to the felon voting amendment.
