It wouldn't be very smart of people if they let their children play in the front yard with a bunch of strangers standing on the sidewalk.

Great analogy LOL. Hope you caught the sarcasm because I’m trying to lay it on pretty thick. That’s the type of think you have to say when you have no come back of why it’s wrong to discuss sexual orientation with very young children. Keep trying!

DeSantis Suspends Hillsborough County State Attorney:

Ron DeSantis Suspends Woke State Prosecutor Andrew Warren (breitbart.com)

Andrew Warren is just another democrat who believes himself to be above the law. Why stop at suspension. Fire Warren.

This is NOT Commiefornia. We will not have prosecutors like those in Los Angeles and San Francisco. If you can't be law abiding, get the hell out.

This kind of stuff is supposed to be handled at the local and state level. Big gov would be making it federal.

I think it has already happened. He suspended the Hillsborough County state attorney for “incompetence” and “neglect of duty” based on the state attorney’s blanket statement that he would refuse to prosecute certain violations of Florida law (most specifically including the HB5 15 week abortion law).

The suspension order finds that because a blanket policy of non-prosecution does not make individualized, case-specific determinations in each case it does not constitute an exercise of prosecutorial discretion, but is instead purporting to nullify Florida criminal law in the 13th Judicial Circuit.

BS. Gov is gov, taxes are taxes, etc. I’m old enough to remember when states rights was not an excuse for more layers of BIG GOV. states rights now sounds as asinine as Reagan conservative LOL

I thought you were for democracy. Now you are for politicians getting to bypass the will of voters to get rid of elected officials. Strange how quickly you turned on the democracy you were claiming to be for earlier. So when you say "win elections" you didn't really mean it as a solution, did you?

Seems like a free speech issue. The elected Attorney can say whatever he wants I’d think. Don’t you need to prove he’s doing something vs saying something?

I think it's a fair discussion re: what exactly should be said/taught at what age. But even young kids are aware of gender identity or sexual identity. From even before they can remember, they are often dressed in different clothes with different colors. They are given toys targeted to boys or girls. They are described as a boy or girl and often given masculine or feminine names. They are taken into/go into different bathrooms depending upon whether they are girls or boys.

I imagine you're not literally saying kids should be kept in the dark entirely about identity but rather you do not want them being told what it means for someone to be transgender?

@mdgator05, if the charges are accurate then it sounds like this guy should be suspended pending a full investigation. His job as a state prosecutor is to enforce the laws on the books regardless of if he agrees or disagrees with them politically. If he's refusing to prosecute specific laws, then he's refusing to do his job which is grounds for suspension and termination in pretty much any career.

There are plenty of laws that we don't enforce that are still on the books. It is illegal to sing in a swimsuit in Florida. Should every elected official in the state be suspended for not enforcing that law, whether they agree with it or not? If not, then it doesn't seem like that is really the issue.

    He strikes again:
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis suspends state attorney Andrew Warren

Gov. Ron DeSantis on Thursday suspended State Attorney Andrew Warren, the chief prosecutor for the 13th Judicial Circuit covering Hillsborough County, after calling him "woke" and accusing him of refusing to properly enforce certain laws.

“The governor cited positions Warren has taken on abortion laws, gender confirmation surgery and other issues.

“While DeSantis framed the issue as upholding the rule of law, the suspension has partisan overtones, with a GOP governor removing a Democratic official who twice was elected by voters in his county.”

In other words, to hell with what the voters want. Prosecutors MUST have discretion. When a Governor sticks his I want to be president nose into the exercise of it, the road to hell starts being paved.

Does the governor in Florida have the authority to do this?

The state constitution says he can only suspend state officers who are not subject to impeachment, but the state attorney general is subject to impeachment, isn't he?

Granted there are stupid laws (like the one you cite) that exist in every state. The solution there is to get it off the books. I'd argue that arresting officers don't know that law is on the books. It may be dumb, but to answer your question: if someone is arrested for singing in a swimsuit and brought to trial, then yes they should be prosecuted. That's the prosecutor's job.

So should all the Sheriffs and Police Chiefs in the state be suspended and fired for not properly enforcing that law (by making their officers aware of its existence)? Or do they get to choose what laws they enforce by deciding that it is stupid and not worth their time?

It’s the state attorney for that circuit, and he’s definitely an officer who can be suspended.

The officers subject to impeachment in Florida are the Governor, lieutenant governor, cabinet members, justices of the Supreme Court, and judges of the district courts, circuit courts, and county courts.

As I said, they're likely unaware of its existence. They are not choosing, as this prosecutor is, to arrest or not arrest someone. This prosecutor is specifically saying he will not prosecute someone who's broken a law that someone was arrested and arraigned for.

Maybe someone should be arrested for it. It's a very likely bet that the first time someone is arrested for it and prosecuted for it, it'll get taken up by the Legislature and stricken from the books.
