I feel differently. That’s why I intentionally move into subdivisions with deed restrictions that are enforced.

There are plenty of places to live with and without restrictions.

    Each to their own.

    From the article:
“We need asset managers to be laser focused on returns and nothing more. Florida’s not going to subsidize the actions of Leftist ideologues who hate America; we’re not going to let a bunch of rich people in Manhattan or Europe circumvent our democracy,” said CFO Jimmy Patronis.

The irony here? I’d guess something like 95% of these Wall Street money managers are Republicans.

The bottom line is that this new political stunt by DeSantis won’t hurt the Florida Retirement System members because by law Florida is obligated to pay their retirement benefits anyway. The unfunded liability will come out of the taxpayer’s pockets. There’s no getting around that.

Beautiful. $40k per migrant to temporarily relocate asylum seekers in Texas to Massachusetts. Fiscal responsibility!

    Same day, same paper.

From a piece on permitless carry

Standing alongside Renner, Hernando County Sheriff Al Nienhuis, president of the Florida Sheriffs Association, endorsed the legislation.

“I think we can assume that our citizens are going to do the right thing when it comes to carrying and bearing arms,” he said.

    And yesterday in Lakeland

LAKELAND — Ten people were shot in the area just north of Bartow Road in midtown Lakeland late Monday afternoon, Lakeland police said.

The shooting took place at 3:43 p.m. near Iowa Avenue and Plum Street, about a block east of Massachusetts Avenue and some 400 yards south of Memorial Boulevard.

Permitless carry will lead to more gun violence, more gun homicides, and likely more mass shootings. The idiocracy continues.

Trump and DeSantis seem to be battling over who is the most pro death penalty. I oppose the death penalty, in part, because death is permanent and can't be undone regardless of evidence or testimony that comes out later. Not sure I understand how people who otherwise seem very skeptical of government, of experts, etc., seem to put so much confidence in our system when it comes to the permanent act of killing someone. Personally, I wouldn't lose sleep over a rapist being executed regardless of the age of the victim if I were 100% sure they did it. But it's not going to stop with rape if we decide as a society that capital punishment is a solution. The War on Drugs will be next. Not only that, but I think if we begin to apply the death penalty to new categories of crimes, the more we will see politicians like Trump and DeSantis seeking to lessen the procedural and substantive safeguards that we at least have in place now for murders.

Then why punish people at all? Think of the innocent people over the years sentenced to long jail terms only to be found out to be innocent 40 or 50 years later. Their life wasn't taken away from them?
