The problem is very few “ignore” race. It’s a utopian fantasy more than present reality.

Republican Party also has a huge optics problem. Maybe some on the right are genuinely sincere in wanting a society that is truly race blind. But it’s kind of hard to make that argument when you are sitting next to a white nationalist (in congress or at CPAC) and letting some of these far right orgs have greater influence over the party. Have to pick a lane there.

#1 son graduated from New College. It is a bit unusual from most teaching institutions. They bill themselves as The Liberal Arts Honors college in Florida and tends to attract very bright and sometimes unusual students. The graduates I’m aware of are all gainfully employed contributing members of society. Surely, there is room in the vast halls of higher education in FL for a 700 student college that’s a bit weird. I can say with a good deal of assurance that upon hearing they are to become the Hillsdale of the South faculty and students will flee at high velocity.

The only people I know who went there were basically the affluent hippies of my generation (artistic, free spirit types). And yeah, they would have avoided the place DeSantis's lawyer was describing like a plague.

I sometimes joked that it was a Hippie Factory (not far wrong). A guy I worked with quite a bit was a statistician for FWC and later the UF College of medicine who graduated from NC with a degree in music but taught himself stats because it interested him.
My son got a degree from NC in Philosophy, taught himself German, went to grad school in Philosophy in Berlin, then got degrees in Math and Engineering from Columbia and works as a quant for JP Morgan in NYC.

You sound no different than the people 30-40 years ago who thought being gay was a phase.
Almost All Adolescents Who Begin Gender-Affirming Hormones Continue Into Adulthood: Study

Not even remotely true. Few people actually ignore race, no matter what they claim. Unconscious bias is a reality in our society.

But even putting that aside, ignoring race after you've already done the damage because of race only locks in place the harm done. You can't fix a problem caused by race with "colorblind" solutions. It would be like if you stole $120 from your middle child and then proposed to make it better by giving each of your three children $40.

. The lawsuits are going to be so much fun! Especially the suits by the bond holders. Just doubling down on his extreme right wing stupid.

I am really surprised he doubled down on this. Let's settle it in the courtroom. Too bad the Florida taxpayers will have to pay for his hubris

I wouldn't get my hopes up. He's been packing the courts with friendly judges and when they appeal it's usually to friendly Federal judges

Disney is a major donor to members of the legislature and in four years DeSantis is gone but Disney is forever. Curious if legislators will bite the hand that feeds them long term to satisfy our dipshit governor.

I am not. He had a lot of federal money to resolve the suits. He can’t back down for perception of being weak. This is, variously, a clear impairment of contract and taking. It is exactly what socialists do— they nationalize the means of production. In this case, Reedy Creek’s private capacity to raise revenue for its infrastructure and management needs. They ran against socialism, but voters in this state are too blinded by their hatred of non-white or non-straight people that they don’t know that they voted for socialist dictatorship practices. Retaliatory government is fine with them so long as they agree with what is being retaliated against. And he can do this so long as compensation is paid for the bonds and the taking. What he can’t do is prevent that from gas opening by appointing a board.

Taking cases and impairment of contract cases are very popular with conservatives. And the people and institutions who own these bonds are too

It appears that he is going to try and force Disney to pay off the bonds or assume the debt. The original law seems flawed though since it targeted a single entity

But those that follow will still want that Disney cash. This is more of DeSantis’ performative nonsense

Growing up in the Sarasota/Bradenton area in the 60s New College was always the easiest place in town to pick up chicks.
There was always a hippie chick or two along US 41 just south of the airport with her thumb up hitching a ride.

Maybe the bumper sticker “gas, grass, or ass, nobody rides for free” was invented down that way?
