I chuckled at DeSantis trying to repurpose Churchill's speech about fighting a literal war against fascists to DeSantis fighting his figurative war against free speech, academic freedom, and children's books.

Desantis’ platform in a nutshell: Say woke a bunch of times and hope the uneducated rubes gobble it up for votes. Nobody with an actual functioning IQ would vote for this guy. He’s a complete dingbat.

 

A VERY troubling aspect of the law is that it allows the state to take custody of a minor who has received or is receiving gender affirming care in another state. Hypothetically, if a family was from a state where these procedures are legal and their child was undergoing such care, Florida could take the child away from the parents if they were vacationing in Florida and the treatment was discovered.

The true bigotry of it all is that they're not actually banning gender-affirming care for everybody. They're only banning it for transgender children. Children that have other sex disorders can still take the same hormone treatments they're banning transgender kids from taking. It lays bare that none of this is about the safety of the treatments. It's all about bigoted scumbags punishing children because they are different.

They are committing fraud with those flights, and the way they are doing it essentially makes it human trafficking or kidnapping. Those are crimes.

Pro-tip: if you have to lie or give false documents to trick people into boarding a plane, you aren’t on the correct side of the law and are probably committing a crime against that “illegal” brown person you loathe so much.

I'm aware. I responded to your post earlier with intel I have on how they're using this awful law to try and force a de facto ban of the gender-affirming care for trans adults too. My post was speaking purely of the provision in the law banning gender-affirming care for trans children. The people who support these laws often try to argue that it's about protecting kids from experimental medicine, when it is anything but the case.
