the bill is designed to targeted traditional dem unions, not pub unions. that is how it is split up.

 

Is there some benefit to being a member of that union? Perhaps teachers want a choice to be a member instead of enrolling and payment by default? My wife is not considered full time as an academic advisor so it doesn’t apply to her but I asked her and she said she’d opt out if given a choice.
It’s pretty obvious that union was targeted for retaliation.

There are many benefits. Teachers already have a choice on whether or not to be a member of the union. They aren't forced into it by default.

 

You are not required to join the teachers’ union. This is about not allowing the district to take union dues out through payroll deduction. If you choose to be a union member you will have to arrange payment of your dues through some other mechanism.

This is a straight up attempt at union busting but only those unions that don’t support Republicans.

 

Nurses and teachers...female, dem, dominated unions..bad.
Police, fire, prison guards, etc all male dominated, pub supporters...good

 

What are the benefits?

What baffles me is the way the legislature just dances to his every tune. DeS believes he is fulfilling his destiny and has the full support of the state citizens

 

Yep. It's a combination of making it more difficult to have dues-paying members and then raising the threshold of dues-paying members needed from a majority to 60%. It's all meant to destroy the unions that have opposed DeSantis.

I'd defer to the teachers on the forum on the extent of the benefits, but the union will fight for teachers who are accused of misconduct. They have experienced people who can help the teacher as they go through the process.

I had a teacher client who was railroaded by the school district. Unfortunately, the client wasn't a member of the union and didn't have money for an attorney. So they were going to have to go through the process alone.

I stepped up and represented them for free because I felt the school district was so in the wrong. But this isn't my area of expertise, so we were both flying by the seat of our pants a bit. Anyways, we got a good result (I don't take any credit for it). But I can't imagine how lonely and nerve-racking it is to go through that process with nobody to help or advise you.

 

It’s similar to the Trump worship except this guy is worse at it.

What is really interesting is most of the responses were supportive of Trump and not of that tweet.

 

His cronies in the legislature want a piece of the pie and it’s very easy to distract a large chunk of the electorate here in Florida with issues like Disney and trans folks.

 

There is a silver lining (maybe).

Apparently, DeSantis believes it only takes 4 years to “de-program”, “re-program” or indoctrinate conservatism into the future electorate. So, by the time he gets to run for president, he will have produced hundreds of thousands of unemployed graduates from literal Mickey Mouse colleges who will remember that he is an asshat.

 

The unfortunate reality is as long as the boards of trustees do his bidding, we're stuck with the clowns they select.
